Religious Education

Dear Parents and Families
To say it's been a busy few weeks would be an understatement of mammoth proportions, not only at school but across the globe. We have a new Pope, mourned the passing of a much loved leader of the Catholic Church, re-elected our Prime Minister and celebrated the resurrection of Jesus at Easter. It's been a roller coaster of commemorations and celebrations.
The death of Pope Francis saddened us all. His legacy will be enduring and his life has been commemorated through tributes and accolades befitting of a genuine and adored leader. Pope Francis will be remembered as someone who stood up for human rights and for the marginalised; in short, he personified the face of Jesus. We were lucky to have someone of his faith, humility and fortitude as leader of the Catholic church.
Equally, it seems, we are lucky to have found a leader just as authentic and personable in Pope Leo XIV. From what we are hearing and reading in the early stages of his pontificate, Pope Leo has declared he'll continue the great legacy of his predecessor and call for peace in countries where there is conflict. In his first official address, Pope Leo highlighted the importance of missionary work and discussion, as well as care for those he called the "least and the rejected", all positive signs we will continue to be well led by a caring and kind leader, traits and qualities we wish in all world leaders.
Just as the death and resurrection of Jesus at Easter is a sign of hope and humility, may the work of Pope Leo be just as meaningful and life giving.

Project Compassion ~ THANK YOU!!
This year we raised $1855 for Caritas' Project Compassion fundraising charity. This is a fantastic achievement and we are grateful for the generosity from many families. We raised $1055 from the sale of Zooper Doopers throughout term 1 and a little over $800 through Project Compassion money boxes. $1855 is a wonderful effort and will go a long way to helping those less fortunate.
St Brendan's Parish Feast Day ~ This Sunday 18th May 11am
St Brendan's Feast Day Celebrations are on this Sunday 18th May. We would love as many families as possible attend. Mass is at 11am with a picnic celebration to follow in the church grounds. Students from St Luke's and St Brendan's will perform a few songs as part of the entertainment.
Anzac Day
We had a number of our senior leaders represent the school and lay a wreath at the 11am service on Anzac day. These experiences go a long way to help grow student capacity and leadership. Thank you to Flynn Gemmill, Rhys Cowan and Gusti Feldtman for representing St Luke’s.
Mother's Day
Thank you to many in our community who donated gifts and helped coordinate our Mother's day Stall last Friday. It was a great success. Students loved choosing something for their mums and I'm sure were well received on Mother's Day. We hope all mums had a wonderful day last Sunday.
National Reconciliation Week ~ Tuesday 27th May - Tuesday 3rd June
This years theme for National reconciliation Week (NRW), Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future.
Bridging Now to Next calls on all Australians to step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us.
Years grade 5 and 6 will celebrate NRW with a liturgy in the school auditorium with Fr Adi on Tuesday 27th at 12pm and several students (TBC) will travel via bus with Mr Summers to St Joseph's Benalla for the Diocesan National Reconciliation Mass. We are currently in the process of selecting student FIRE Carriers from grades 5 and grade 6.
Have a wonderful fortnight ahead.
