Investigating DNA

Mrs Wendy Rowe

Year 10 biology students have been studying the structure of DNA and how it replicates. They have assembled DNA models and explained the replication process. In addition, they created and performed an experiment to compare the amount of DNA in strawberries when compared to peas. Careful consideration was given to ensuring that the experiment was a fair comparison. The use of a control sample helped students to be confident that the DNA that was visualised was not an artefact.  As part of this experiment, they also investigated how effective meat-tenderiser powder is at separating out the DNA. It looks like we might have some future scientists in the group.
