Assistant Principal's Report

Teaching & Learning AP

Mrs Rose Thomson

Our students have worked hard this term, embracing their learning opportunities and making the most of all learning experiences.

You will have seen that our Term 1 Progress Reports were presented in a new format this year, where students received an averaged score for every subject on their learning behaviours. The subject averages were then averaged to produce an Overall Average. Several students achieved a perfect score of 4 for their overall average, which means that they consistently demonstrate all of the following learning behaviours in every subject:

  • Ready to Learn (brings equipment and is prepared to learn)
  • Applies Effort (maximises learning opportunities, works independently, demonstrates persistence and takes on challenges with learning)
  • Working Together (follows classroom procedures and routines, listens to other students and staff, works collaboratively with others)
  • Completes work (completes all coursework, formative tasks, homework and meets due dates).

Well done to our amazing students!

Progress Reports are published on Compass. From your child’s homepage, you will see a notification. You can also click on 'View Academic Reports' or navigate to your child’s 'Profile' and click the 'Reports' tab. Please remember to scroll down the page to view the Progress reports. You may need to access them on a desktop computer/laptop. When we publish our next cycle in Term 2, you will be able to compare the results to Term 1.

It was great to see so many families at the college for Parent Teacher Interviews, having discussions about academic progress and learning behaviours.

Year 7 to 9 students have undertaken Literacy and Numeracy assessments from the start of the term, including PAT, Renaissance Reading and Essential Assessment. Year 7 and 9 completed NAPLAN online testing, with our attendance and completion rate exceeding once again this year. Well done to all Year 7 and 9 students for completing the tests with such diligence and attending any catch-up sessions due to absence.

Year 9 students completed their Morrisby testing to create personalised career suggestions. We look forward to helping them prepare for their job interviews next term.

Many Year 9 and 10 student leaders have joined our school tours for prospective Year 7 enrolments for 2026 and have represented our College to the highest standard. Students discuss their academic experiences and extra-curricular activities with great enthusiasm.

Year 12 students are now one-third of the way through their learning program and have been extremely hardworking in this first term. During both study sessions and Focussed Learning Time (FLT) Year 12 students are making the most of their time to complete coursework, revise for upcoming SACs or catch up with teachers for extra assistance. Year 11s are also completing their first VCE SACs and working hard during FLT. Some time spent during the holidays for a comprehensive revision of content to date will be important.

Our VM students are making the most of opportunities outside of school with several excursions attended. We are proud of the way students are representing our college and showing confidence to participate in discussions and interact with external event hosts and presenters.

Over the holidays, we encourage all families to log onto Compass and ensure that your child is up to date with Learning tasks and ready to start Term 2. Remember also to review the feedback provided by teachers on Learning Tasks for all Common Assessment Tasks (CATs) and School Assessed Coursework (SACs).
