Hello Families!
I can hardly believe that we have reached the end of our first term together! As we are wrapping up the term and several projects, it has been so rewarding to observe the students' sense of achievement and pride in seeing the finished product of all their hard work. Their Viking shields are fierce and an incredible accomplishment. The pillows scattered about on the chairs and the mat are beautiful, and another representation of beginning a task and seeing it through to the end. Handwriting and form drawing are becoming more refined, thinking is more nuanced, and the class is really coming together.
We are wrapping up our Local Area Main Lesson, which we have titled 'Making Marvellous Maps of Mparntwe,' to continue the theme of alliterative titles! We will begin next term with a Maths Main Lesson, working on number patterns, factors and multiples, and beginning long multiplication and division. It is a beautiful lesson that demonstrates the language of numbers and mathematics, instilling in students an appreciation for the steadiness of the rules within mathematics, as opposed to English where there are rules such as 'i before e except after c and if your foreign neighbour Keith receives eight counterfeit sleighs.' Like I tell the class, 2+2 always equals 4! To support your student in this during the school holidays, please continue working on memorising maths facts and fluency in mental maths.
Have a wonderful school holiday and I look forward to Term 2!
Blessings,
Brittany
