We are proud of all our students' efforts, positive mindsets and look forward to acknowledging and celebrating their accomplishments with them throughout these units.
Year 3 Team
We’ve had a busy few weeks in Grade 3! The students completed their first NAPLAN, and while some nerves and anxiety swept through the Grade 3 house, we are incredibly proud of how each student showed resilience and handled the challenges that came their way.
In reading, the students have enjoyed diving into Goosebumps – Ghost Camp. They’ve been predicting, summarizing, inferring, and answering questions about the novel. We’ve also been exploring how the author uses adjectives and descriptive language to add detail and keep readers engaged in the story.
In writing, we’ve continued developing our narrative skills by focusing on creating characters and settings. This helps us incorporate more descriptive language into our writing. We’ve also been learning how to build tension to make our stories even more exciting!
In maths, we’ve been strengthening our understanding of number and place value, with a special focus on odd and even numbers. The students have also been looking into probability and have enjoyed games involving spinners and looking at the results of coin tosses and the even chance of heads or tails.
Week 7 brought the celebration of Harmony Day, where the Year 3 students took part in various classroom activities. It was wonderful to see so many students in cultural dress and others wearing a splash of orange to show their support.
Finally, a big congratulations to all the Year 3 students who tried out for cross country!
Well done to those who made it through!

''In year 4, kindness is our jam!''
In Term 1, the Year 4’s have been learning lots of new and exciting information, across each of their subject areas.
In English, the Year 4’s have been exploring realistic fiction texts. In Reading, students have read a range of realistic fiction books and have applied numerous comprehension strategies, to help deepen their understanding. Each class has also been working on tracking their thinking and have been reading Roald Dahl’s book ‘Matilda,’ to further foster a love of reading.
In Writing, students have written a detailed narrative and have now started writing their own realistic fiction text, using the books we have explored in Reading as inspiration. Students will take their piece through the Writing process, where they will brainstorm their ideas, plan, and write their story.
Students have also had a weekly focus on handwriting, to help them write clearly formed letters with automaticity.
In Mathematics, for Number we have been working on fractions, where we have explored equivalent fractions, mixed number fractions, and improper fractions. We have also been working on comparing fractions, placing them on a number line, and have introduced decimals. For Statistics, we have been working on collecting and displaying data. We have also been analysing graphs.
For Humanities, students have been working on a passion project, where they have been provided with an opportunity to choose what topic they would like to learn about and how they would like to present their findings.
Students have created a plan for their passion project, gathered information based on their chosen topic, and are now working on creating the final product. Students have really been enjoying working on their projects.
The Year 4 cohort has settled in really well this term. We have achieved lots and look forward to the weeks ahead.
Here is what some of our Year 4’s had to say about Term 1, so far:
“I have really enjoyed completing our tasks on essential assessment for Mathematics and working on our passion project for HUMS. I like using PowerPoint.” – Ayeza
“Making stories in Writing this term has been really fun.” – Ram

The year 5s have been very busy the last few weeks continuing their wonderful learning and also completing NAPLAN!
In Reading, Year 5 students have been learning how to infer, analyse and synthesise using various narratives. The students have been learning to identify character traits and how they change throughout the story.
Through reading and gaining new information, they have been dissecting the author's choices and stating how their thinking has grown and changed.
In Writing, the Year 5 students have been learning about narratives. We are continuing to write all about Forkys adventures and are now beginning to edit and publish our narrative pieces.
In Maths, we have been learning about Place Value, Addition and Subtraction. Students have been learning to use these strategies to solve number sentences involving decimals for multi-numbered equations and worded problems.
As we continue to learn about Data and Representation, we have been investigating different types of graphs including column graphs, dot plots and line graphs.
Students are also learning to interpret, analyse and compare data to draw conclusions.
In Science, students have been conducting many experiments to support their learning of different types of matter.
Last week, each class created Ooblek to explore how solids, liquids and gases can change state, that is from one to another.
In Health, students have been identifying and exploring risks and how we use appropriate strategies to stay safe.
For example, we identified that we should always have an adult help or supervise us when using a stove at home.
We can’t wait to see what’s in store for Term 2
Kind regards,
Grade 5 Team
