Academic Assembly at the Senior School

The annual Academic Assembly was held at the Senior campus on Friday 2 August. 

Four students received scholarships, a further four were awarded bursaries and fifty-seven received certificates acknowledging their achievements. 

 

2024 Scholarship Winners

 

The Harold Gatty Memorial Scholarship 

Harold Gatty himself won a bursary to attend St Virgil’s College, after growing up in Campbell Town. Harold went on to have a distinguished career in aviation. The award was presented to Riley Stocks.

 

The Old Virgilians Association Scholarship

Honouring all facets of College life and academic excellence by so many of our past students, the award was presented to Llewellyn Gray.

 

The Leo Doyle Memorial Scholarship 

In honour of first day student of St Virgil’s College. Leo was an academic and prize-winner throughout his education and went on to be held in high honour in the legal profession and the Tasmanian parliament. The award was presented to Luca McCreadie.

 

 

The Sir John Galvin Memorial Scholarship

Sir John Galvin showed great respect for the Christian Brothers  and the generosity of St Virgil’s College to ensure that he could continue his education in the early 1900’s. He became an international diplomat and was known for being larger than life, for his success in business and, above all, his service to God. The award was presented to Hayden McKay.

 

2024 Bursary Winners

Thanks to the generosity of the Old Virgilians Association and other College benefactors, bursaries are awarded to students who have displayed all round excellence during their time at the College.  These bursaries incorporate areas such as academic studies, leadership, music, the arts, service and co-curricular commitments. Bursary recipients include Luke Morrisby, Leo Pigden, Xavier Wright and Charlie Cubit.
