Principal's Report

Tim Bernau | Principal

Dear Skye Families,

Dreamweaver Concert

We are still buzzing from the excitement of the School Concert this week! The thrill started with students arriving at school in their costumes and heading off to the Frankston Arts Centre. The energy was electric as they experienced the backstage buzz of a theatre, overcoming nerves to shine on stage in front of two packed audiences.

A huge thank you to our teachers and ES staff for their tireless work, ensuring our students were well-prepared. And to all of our parents, we appreciate your support at home, particularly with the amazing costumes.

A special mention goes to Miss Murphy, whose creativity and leadership made this event possible. Her dedication brought the concert to life, and we are so grateful for her commitment to our students.

Staffing News

After a thorough process, I am thrilled to announce the appointment of two substantive Assistant Principals who will be pivotal in leading our school forward:

  • Assistant Principal (Wellbeing and School Operations): Kim Weissenburger
Kim has been a rock in this role for the past 12 months, and I’m delighted to see her continue this work in a substantive capacity. Her leadership in student wellbeing and school operations has been invaluable, and I’m confident she’ll continue to make a significant impact.
  • Assistant Principal (Teaching and Learning): Gareth Snow
Gareth comes to us from Parkdale Primary School, where he has led whole school curriculum and teaching and learning initiatives in both Acting Assistant Principal and Learning Specialist roles. His experience and fresh perspectives will be instrumental as we continue to refine our whole school approaches to curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

Both Kim and Gareth officially begin in Term 4, and I know they are excited to continue our journey of growth and excellence. Please join me in congratulating them on their well-deserved appointments!

Yard Supervision Reminder

We have noticed a number of students being dropped off at school well before our supervision time begins. Please be aware that yard supervision only starts at 8:30am, and students should not arrive without a parent or guardian until that time. This ensures the safety and wellbeing of all our students. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

$400 School Saving Bonus

As part of the government initiative, all families with children enrolled in a government school from Prep to Year 12 in 2025 will receive a one-off $400 School Saving Bonus next term. This will be credited directly to the school and can be used for education-related expenses such as school uniforms and activities.

To ensure you don’t miss out, please make sure your contact details are up to date before 18 October 2024 - contact us via skye.ps@education.vic.gov.au. You will receive emails from the Department of Education to verify your information and access your bonus, so do keep an eye on your inbox (and check your junk mail too!). For more details, visit vic.gov.au/school-saving-bonus.

Writer in Residence Book Launch

This term, we had the privilege of celebrating 23 of our student authors as part of the Writer in Residence Program. Guided by the talented Cassy Polimeni, our students worked tirelessly to craft their own stories, learning about the writing process from start to finish.

We hosted a special book launch in the school library where students received hard copies of the anthology they created. A collection of these books will also take pride of place in our library for all students to enjoy. A big thank you to Cassy and Ardoch for making this experience possible.

Footy Day

Next Thursday, we’re wrapping up the term with our annual Footy Parade and Pie Day. The parade will kick off at 9:15am in the Gym, and we encourage all students to come dressed in their favourite team’s colours. The celebrations continue on Friday with the 'time honoured' Staff vs Students football match. The students have dominated in recent years, but under the guidance of supercoach, Mr. J and the addition of some handy recruits, 2024 could well be the year of the teachers.

Ballarto Road Upgrade

A quick reminder for those who didn’t receive their School Access Permit sticker this week: we have plenty available for collection at the front office. Also, please note that the side entrance to the Skye CFA Station does not provide access through to Potts Road.

I wish everyone a restful break, and we look forward to seeing you refreshed and ready for a fantastic Term 4.

Warm regards,

Tim
