Welcome
What a big week it's been at Skye Primary! The concert held at the Frankston Arts Centre was an overwhelming success. It gave our students the unique opportunity to perform in front of a massive audience which is a thrill like no other. Weeks of rehearsals gave the students the confidence to take on the task and they benefited enormously from the experience.
Next week is the last week of term and a chance for us all to have a well-deserved rest to recharge our batteries and hit the last term of their Skye Primary School time running. There is Graduation to look forward to and of course, the Big Day Out!
We hope everyone has a fun and safe break during the holidays. See you all again in Term 4.
Literacy
The students have continued to improve their reading skills by reading in small groups and completing comprehension activities. We finished reading RUNT (Craig Silvey) as our shared text and as luck would have it, it has been made into a movie and hits the cinemas this week.
The students saw an opportunity to write a Prequel or Sequel to it in their writing time and it was so impressive to see how creative they were by using the characters in the story and extending the narrative.
Our narrative writing has reached new levels. The students are really mastering the structure of a narrative and have 'Planned for Success' by thinking of a setting, characters and a problem that needs to be solved by or Protagonist and they have been very creative by in developing an Antagonist that the readers will despise. They have employed a 'Sizzling Start' to hook the reader in. They have used 'Dynamic Dialogue' and excellent description to bring their characters to life. They have 'Banned the Boring Bits' to keep the story moving. They have 'Tightened Tension' to build the suspense and have provided and 'Exciting Ending' that has been entertaining and action packed. They have then edited their draft to made a polished piece of writing.
Numeracy
We have collected and represented data in various ways including pie charts, line graphs, and double column graphs. Data representation involves organizing and visualising data in ways that make it easier to analyse, communicate, and make informed decisions. We have also used the order of operations to solve equations, a skill that is essential for solving equations accurately using a consistent and logical sequence.
Wellbeing
Our wellbeing focus continues to be gender norms and involves exploring the roles and behaviours that society traditionally associates with being male and female. It is crucial to foster an understanding of these concepts in a way that promotes equality, respect and self-expression.
Inquiry
We have continued to look at electricity and circuits and 6B have designed and wired model houses out of boxes that have working lights with switches and fans with motors to keep the occupants cool! Students will also consolidate their understanding of all things electricity by completing an end of topic information page.
5/6C enjoyed playing some fun maths games to help them practice their times table facts. They also all enjoyed hanging out with Prep E to create pieces of art using items from the environment.
