The Next Fortnight of Learning

Literacy

In the next two weeks the Grade 5’s will continue their learning about Fables with a focus on identifying the structure and style of writing in Fable texts. This will include exploring authors use of figurative language to provide visual representations and interest for readers. Students will look closely at similes and metaphors to make their writing engaging.

Maths

Over the next fortnight students will be exploring strategies and methods for balancing equations. Students will apply their skills in multiplication, addition and subtraction to find unknown variables in number sentences. These activities will challenge students to solve multistep problems in order to find solutions for missing numbers.

This fortnight students will be continuing to explore angles. This includes identifying and labelling a range of angles such as obtuse, acute, straight, right and reflex. Students are growing their skills and confidence in measuring angles using protractors.

Inquiry

In Inquiry students will consolidate their understanding of the Solar System by creating a visual poster to represent the order of planets. Students will draw on their prior knowledge and investigation of planets to determine their positioning in the Solar System. This hands on activity will consolidate students learning which they have engaged with throughout our inquiry space unit.

Wellbeing

This term as part of our Wellbeing learning students will be exploring the following topics:

  • Gender and Identity
  • Help Seeking
  • Positive and negative emotions
  • Recognising mixed emotions

Celebration of Learning

School Concert

Year 5 students have been busy practicing their dances ahead of time for school concert. All minions are looking forward to joining in the school production to put on a performance at the Frankston Arts Centre!

Here are some reflections from our Year 5 students:

'It was lots of fun, but very tiring!' Elyson

'I think our performance was the best!' Sam

'I was nervous being on stage with such a big audience, I feel proud of myself' Abbey

'I was a bit scared I would mess up the dance, but I didn't!' Charlie

'I was really nervous, but then I saw one smile in the crowd and it made me try my best' Seth

Inquiry - Presenting our Solar System Quizzes

This week students had the opportunity to share their Solar System Quizzes to Year 4 and 6 classes. The session was a great success and was a fantastic way for students to showcase their understanding and a range of interesting facts about the Solar System and our Inquiry learning this term.
