Connect: Year 2

Can you believe we are already near the end of Term 3?! It has been a fun-filled and very busy term with an excursion to Myuna Farm, Green & Gold Day, Book Week Celebrations and our very successful concert, Dreamweaver!

We hope you all have a fun, enjoyable break and that the Spring weather (minus the wind and rain) graces us with its presence!

Reminders

  • With the arrival of Spring, it is now expected that ALL students are wearing a HAT in the yard at recess and lunchtime. Please ensure your child has their named school hat at school each day. If it has been lost, you can purchase them from PSW in Carrum Downs.
  • Melbourne Museum Excursion- information and payment details have been sent out via the QKR app. Please ensure permission and payment is made as the excursion is on Monday in Week 2 of Term 4.
  • If you would like to do any form of revision over the holidays, your child has log in details for Mathletics and Aussie Decodables which they can access on a computer or tablet. Enjoying books, getting outside and spending time with family is the most important thing to do over the break!

Celebrating Term 3

Literacy

We covered a lot of ground this term in our literacy sessions. They are GO GO GO for the entire two-hour block and sometimes run into the middle session for an additional 30 minutes. This took some getting used to, but the Grade 2 students are doing a superb job with this and deserve a HUGE pat on the back for their A+ EFFORTS!

We successfully completed our class novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and used Roald Dahl's work to inspire some interesting 'alternative' versions of the story!

Numeracy

We have spent a lot of time consolidating our skip counting this term as it is one of the foundations for all areas of Mathematics and something we noticed to be a big gap for many of our students. It would be a BIG help if you could practise this with your child over the holiday break by giving them a non-zero starting number (eg. 42, 27, 86) and asking them to skip counting by 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s. It is always fun to get the chalk out and do this on the ground outside!

Students enjoyed our focus on mapping this term, inspired by the map from our excursion to Myuna Farm.  Students explored the map from this excursion, as well as creating maps from the picture books/stories below...

Concert Practise & The Big Night

Well done to our 'All Stars' and 'Million Dreamers' for their wonderful performances at our concert, Dreamweaver! We might be bias but the Grade 2s were the absolute STANDOUT of the night! A big thank you to all of you for running around and organising costumes, buying tickets and supporting us!
