Sacred Heart College's Junior Chef Competition

A couple of weeks ago, 22 Year 4s took to the kitchen to demonstrate their cooking prowess, making a plate of pancakes with a delicious warm berry sauce for our judges. This experience was a trial to be part of our team of four students that will compete against other Catholic Primary schools in our region at Scared Heart College's Junior Chef competition over the coming weeks. We certainly have an amazing group of chefs who made it extremely hard to choose just 4 students to represent St. B's. We witnessed many admirable qualities in our students who remained calm when faced with different challenges, were organised, followed instructions and made adaptations when needed, acted safely in a busy environment, great team mates, helping others when they needed support and also very encouraging of other's achievements just to name a few.

We would like to thank each student for their efforts and for putting themselves up for this experience. Thanks to our judge Miss Turner, her amazing waiters Jono, Riley and Jesse who delivered anonymous pancakes from the kitchen and our Seniors who got heavily involved in helping judge. A massive thanks also to Kylie for her endless enthusiasm, positivity, support and efforts to enable so many students to trial.

We are excited to announce that the four students representing St. Brigid's are

Stella Spano, Neve Kelly, Levi Bacon and Emily Beven

Our emergency is Mia Shearer. We know you will do us very proud.

To our remaining students, we have another special cooking experience for you to be part of that will give you another chance to prepare a feast for an upcoming celebration and share your love of cooking with others.

Thank so much to Ella, Piper, Zoe, Evelyn, Billie, Lucy M, Chloe, Lucy A, Ruby S, Ruby W, Calyn, Poppy, Hudson, Jordan, Rylen, Josh and Luka who made our day with their efforts and whom we are looking forward to cooking with again soon.

Prep 100 Days

On Friday the 2nd of August the Preps celebrated reaching 100 days at school. To celebrate this special occasion we all spent the day at the McLean’s farm, participating in lots of different fun activities. At the start of the day 30 smiling faces arrived at the gate ready to have lots of fun in the sun, and how lucky we were to have such beautiful weather. After taking lots of photos we began enjoying activities. Some of the activities we enjoyed together were painting pot plants and pictures, making damper, decorating farm cupcakes and going on a nature walk. We also enjoyed toasting marshmallows on the fire, collecting chicken eggs and having a colourful egg hunt.

The Preps had the most wonderful day and I’m sure slept very well that night. When we returned to school we wrote a recount all about our special day. Some children even described this as, ‘The best day of my life!’

Juniors Potato Olympics

Our Grade 1/2 students had a memorable day at the Potato Olympics, where they took part in a variety of exciting spud-themed events! The festivities kicked off with a vibrant opening ceremony, followed by a series of individual and team challenges including the Tator Twirl, Potato Balance, Spud Skate, Spud Relay, Spud Put, and Tator Target. Students also showcased their creativity and spirit in a mascot and team chant challenge, representing their country groups with pride. The day's events were a perfect blend of fun and friendly competition, bringing out the best in our young athletes. The day ended on a delicious note with hot chips for everyone.

Juniors Hanging Rock Excursion

This week, our junior students went on an excursion to Hanging Rock as a part of their Discovery unit in Geography. They had a 1.5-hour guided tour with Ranger Shane, who led them on a challenging climb to the summit. Along the way, they learned about the fascinating history of Hanging Rock, explored its unique geographical features, and were excited to see the native animals and flora of the area. The adventure concluded with a visit to the Discovery Centre, where students deepened their understanding of their local environment. It was a great day of learning and exploration. A big thank you to our parent helpers who joined us on the day.

Interschool Basketball

The senior basketball teams made us incredibly proud at the recent interschool competition. We sent three teams—boys, girls, and mixed—and, as always, our students demonstrated outstanding teamwork and sportsmanship. Each team achieved impressive results. The girls' team excelled, winning all their games convincingly and taking first place in the Girls B Division. The boys' and mixed teams both advanced to the grand finals in their respective divisions, but unfortunately, they couldn't secure the win, with the boys losing by 7 points to Braemar and the mixed team falling short against New Gisborne PS.

A big thank you to Miss Turner for training all our teams during lunchtimes, Shane Thompson for coaching the girls' team, and Rebecca Bartlett for supporting the mixed team on competition day.

Interschool Athletics

Inspired by the recent Paris Olympics, our interschool athletics team was eager to showcase their skills at the Macedon Ranges District Athletics competition. The sun shone brightly over the Keilor Athletics Track as our team delivered outstanding performances. The day concluded with some particularly fast relay races, where our 9/10 girls’ team placed 2nd in a nail-biting sprint to the finish line.

Congratulations to all our athletes, with special recognition for the following students who have qualified for the Division Athletics after placing in the top 2 of their events:

  • Piper Van de Velde – 1500m, 100m, and Long Jump
  • Anakin Van de Velde – 800m
  • Orla Calcagno – 200m
  • Stephanie Sarac – Hurdles and High Jump

Did you know ….

80% of our happiness is derived from:

●      Friendship.

●      Health.

●      Work fulfillment.

●      Loving relationships.

●      Spirituality.

When you do something kind for someone else your brain releases the love hormone oxytocin. This makes you feel good too. Check out Martin Heppell from The Resilience Project talking about being kind and the benefits of kindness. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qO-ja3h5INc
