Year 9 English: Topic of Growing Up

Poem by Stella Whittle

Some beds stay filled at day

Why would you go where you cannot lay

Some places too rambunctious

They stay unconscious

Not all beds are filled at night

Troubled teens causing fright

They’re on the town and looking down

Upon those who scowl and frown

Some beds stay filled at day

It’s somewhere you can stay

After a night out in the city

Comebacks stopped being witty

Not all beds are filled at night

Some don’t come home ‘till light

Some don’t come home at all

Never listened to their parents’ call

Some beds stay filled at day

And there’s not much you can say

To a mind who can’t figure out

What this world is about

Not all beds are filled at night

Try as they might

Some heads don’t go to bed

They’re wishing for a place to be led

Some beds stay filled at day

Try as they may

Nothing could get them to leave

A comfort of blankets up their sleeve

Not all beds are filled at night

Dogs don't bark they bite

Snarl and cry

No reason why
