A Spotlight on Learning

A Spotlight on Learning in the JLC on Springvale Campus

The JLC students have had a wonderful time celebrating Book Week this week. Costume planning for a favourite character from a book has been at the forefront of our minds. They have also been busy creating eye catching door displays, trying to win the coveted Best Door Award. 1/2D were so excited when the Best Door was announced at the parade… they won!

Teachers enjoyed reading the shortlisted books to their classes. Afterwards students discussed which book they believed deserved a prize. In Writing they have been crafting these reasons into persuasive texts to argue why their choice should win.

Through a focus of fictional texts JLC students have been answering questions using information in the text to support their conclusions. They have been learning to reread the text to find clues that will help them to answer the questions.

In Mathematics, JLC students have been practising recognising number patterns. They identified the rules which are used to construct different skip counting patterns. Students also completed numbers patterns by finding the numbers missing from patterns. Working with partners JLC students constructed simple number patterns for their partners to continue.

Acknowledging that students learn best through multiple exposures; our Social and Emotional Learning lessons have revisited a focus of school values from earlier in the year. JLC classes have fine-tuned expectations of what is meant by whole body listening. Through unpacking the meaning of Respect, Collaboration, Resilience and Excellence the students have been striving to meet the expectations within their classroom and playground. Hopefully these positive behaviours from JLC students have also been demonstrated at home.
