This week's notes

Newsletter/Awards Assembly Update

From Week 6 (this week) our Newsletter and Awards Assembly (Fridays) will be conducted fortnightly. The workload associated with preparing, editing and publishing a weekly newsletter can be intense. Communication will still be maintained through uEducateUs, What’s App, messenger etc.

Book Week Celebrations

We had a marvellous day on Thursday, dressing up to celebrate literature. It was fantastic to see everyone participating, and we were very impressed by the efforts of our School Council President and his First Lady who came dressed up as Bob the Builder and Tinkerbell.

The students and staff had a great time, reading and completing activities based on some of the Children’s Book Council of Australia winners.

Book Donations

Mrs Steele and Miss Gray are in the process of compiling a "Reading Spine" for Cavendish Primary School. We are seeking donations of money/books to help us.

If you have spare copies of books at home, or you would like to purchase books/donate toward the Reading Spine, we will publish some titles each newsletter and on uEducateUs.

So far our list is:

The Grug Series (Ted Prior)

On the Tail of the Whale (Julia Donaldson)

The Gruffalo  (Julia Donaldson)

Diary of a Wombat (Jackie French)

Dreamtime Story Collection (Scholastic)

This is How We Do It (Matt Lamothe)

What is a Refugee? (Elisa Gravel)

The Boy Who tried to Shrink his Name (Sandhya Parappukkaran)

My Place (Nadia Wheatley)

The Story about Ping (Marjorie Flack)

Fantastic Mr Fox (Roald Dahl)

The Little Prince (Antoine de Saint-Exupery)

Taj and the Great Camel Trek (Roseanne Hawke)

Dot and the Kangaroo (Ethel Pedley)

The Red Tree (Shaun Tan).

Each of the books in the Reading Spine will have a unit of study developed to match them, and they will be used in the Literacy block.

Most schools in the WSW area are building a reading spine. Our hope is to share these resources across schools to reduce costs.

NAPLAN Results

Results of NAPLAN were discussed at School Council on Wednesday. We celebrated the achievements of our school and state.
