From the Principal
End of term
It has been an incredibly busy term for all the students, staff and parents. Lots of learning has happened and we have overcome a few challenges, mainly the high number of bugs which have been circulating in the community. Hopefully, the two weeks of the September holidays will provide a well needed opportunity for us to reset, recover and get back to full health ready for term 4. Fingers crossed there is lots of sunshine so there will be lots of opportunities for outdoor play.
I will be travelling to Western Australia with my husband to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. We will be spending time in Busselton, Hyden and Perth. I am really looking forward to enjoying the beautiful scenery WA has to offer and especially getting to tick off another 'big rock', Wave Rock (creatively named because it looks like a wave!) from my big rock to do list!
My favourite joke as a child was, 'What is big red and eats rocks?'
Followed by, 'What is big red and eats sand?'
There are lots of free and fun things to do around Melbourne to help you get the children out of the house and away from devices. You can play at the park, ride your bikes on one of the many bike trails around Melbourne, visit the library to borrow a book or two. The list is endless. Here are some of my favourites from the What's on in Melbourne website:
The Bad Guys Escape Room - Southbank Library (FREE)
Can you work together to crack the codes, solve the puzzles, and foil Professor Marmalade’s wicked plot to release an army of Zombie Kittens (Zittens) in the library?
You will have 20 minutes to work in a group of six to stop the Zitten apocalypse.
Bookings essential. Please only book one session per child. Three sessions: 4pm to 4.20pm, 4.30pm to 4.50pm, 5pm to 5.20pm
Age: 6 to 12 years
Presented as part of the Amazing Authors school holiday program.
Fitzroy Gardens Outdoor Adventure (FREE)
Entertain the kids by taking the outdoor adventure challenge in the heritage-listed Fitzroy Gardens.
Starting off at the Fitzroy Gardens Visitor Centre, kids will collect their map and then head off on their hunt to answer 12 questions around the gardens.
Suitable for primary school-aged children but adult assistance is necessary. Remember to bring along a pen or marker.
The Visitor Centre also offers a free activity for younger children – Seek and Find. A bingo-style activity to assist exploring nature around the gardens.
The Visitor Centre is open every day except Christmas Day, 25 December.
Beings by Universal Everything - ACMI Cost: Free to $20 for adults
Projected larger than life, Universal Everything’s parade of fantastic beings hypnotically morphs between forms and textures, from kaleidoscopic fur to molten lava, water molecules, and more. Once you’ve met the cast of colourful characters, you can jump, dance and play to bring them to life. The more you move, the more animated they become. Created from game engines, VFX software and ever-evolving algorithms, massive digital installations appear among generative artworks that grow and change in real-time, responding differently to each interaction so that no two visits are the same.
Check out City of Melbourne - What's On for more fun things to do these holidays.
School resumes on Monday 7 October at 9:00am. Remember to change your clock on Saturday night/Sunday morning so you aren't late to school on the Monday.
Stay safe everyone. We look forward to seeing you all back at school for term 4.
