EMR FINALS

Australian Rules Football

Senior Boys

The senior boys football team had a competitive day out at Elgar Park. It was a very busy week for some of our senior boys who had EMR netball the day prior, and also had EMR basketball coming up a couple of days later!

We were quick out of the blocks in game 1 against Forest Hill, but couldn’t convert our opportunities which came back to bite us in the end. Some fast play from Forest Hill allowed them to kick a winning score by the smallest of margins. Forest Hill 4.1.25 def Vermont 3.6.24

The boys learned their lesson and put the foot down in game 2 against Lilydale. Inaccuracy still marred us, however some slick ball movement alongside some fantastic contested marking and contested ball around the ground saw us run out winners. Vermont 5.9.39 def Lilydale 1.4.10

It all came down to the final game. The competition standings leading into the game against Doncaster were as follows: Vermont 1 win, 1 loss, Forest Hill 1 win, 1 loss, Doncaster 2 wins, 0 losses, Lilydale 0 wins, 2 losses. It all came down to percentage. In order to make the final we needed Forest Hill to lose to Lilydale, or if Forest Hill won we needed to have a healthier percentage.

Doncaster were as vocal as anything leading into the final game. They got the jump kicking the first major, we replied, then it was goal for goal. Our midfield did a sensational job at winning clearances and providing some great forward 50 entries. Vermont came out winners by 15 points which exceeded the required 13-point margin to progress to the final.

Our final opponent for the day was Wantirna. It was a tight game which saw Vermont lead narrowly by 1 point at half time. The lead extended to 7 points, but then Wantirna came home too strong, ended up eventual winners by a 7-point margin. The team should be immensely proud of their efforts throughout the day. Making an EMR final is no easy feat. Congratulations to all.

Netball

Senior Boys

What a stellar effort by the senior boys netball team. They competed hard all day and made it through to the semi-finals, where we unfortunately lost by only a few points to the eventual winners Brentwood, but what a phenomenal team effort all day. Congratulations senior boys, Will J, Jai T, Haidyn G, Sam H, Kade G, Evan M, Adam B, Cameron Z, Nathan C, Ben S.

INTERMEDIATE ROUND ROBIN

Basketball

Boys/Mixed

Well done to the intermediate boys' basketball! A fantastic performance from both the A and B teams, who were undefeated against their opponents, Mt Waverley, Glen Waverley and Highvale. Shout out to Herman W and Christian L for their solid efforts in the B’s. As well as Tom D, Archie D and Marcus W, who showcased their skills and abilities for the A’s. Looking forward to the regional finals in October, go team!

Girls

Our intermediate girls A team were dominant on the court taking our all 3 games of the day. We had a tough first round match up with Highvale but after a slow start finding our game plan we came over the top and clinched the win by 3 points. Then we really found our groove taking down Glen Waverley and Mt Waverley with ease. Our B team weren’t troubled at all during the day and had convincing wins against all schools. Some great shooting by the girls and some amazing defence was played by all. Phenomenal effort year 9 and 10 girls and so proud of the Vermont Values you displayed on court.

Hockey

Boys/Mixed

The team put up a tough competition against Mount Waverley in the first game building a great defence strategy that served them well throughout the day. In the second game Highvale prevailed with a 2-0 win, but the team rallied their strength and teamwork against Glen Waverley where a stellar team goal championed by Alistair G secured their victory.  Commendations to Luke M and Peeyush P for their solid presence in the goal.

Table Tennis

All Vermont teams played well on the day.  The girls A and B team were eclipsed by a professional Glen Waverley SC, but each team member managed to achieve a win against Highvale SC.  Both the boys A and B team made it to the grand final on the day.  The boys A team narrowly missing out on progressing with a loss to Highvale SC, with each school winning 3 games, but Vermont losing out on points.  Congratulations to all players.  All team members showed excellent demonstration of the Vermont values on the day.  Many thanks to Josh Chia for coaching the team.
