Main Campus - Year 4

On Wednesday the 21st of August the school was abuzz with excitement and creativity. It was wonderful to see the children dressed as their favourite book characters wandering the grounds of Woodend Primary School. The year 4 students looked fabulous in their costumes. We saw Clearsight from Wings of Fire, Cat in the Hat & Thing One and Thing Two, Tintin, Will from the Ranger’s Apprentice, The Cat from the Owl and the Pussycat, Luke Skywalker & Darth Vader from Star Wars and so many more.

They enjoyed writing about their book characters by describing them and explaining why they chose them. Here are some examples of their writing:

My book character is Clearsight and she is from the book Wings of Fire; Legends, Darkstalker. My character has silver teardrop scales by her eyes that signify her mind reading and prophecy powers, and like all Night Wings she has silver scales scattered under her wings. I chose my character because she is kind-hearted and doesn't give up. The book that has my character in it is a suspenseful, exciting story from the viewpoint of three different dragons. I love how on the blurb it says, “This is the beginning… of the end.”   By Lily 4SM

My character is Thing 1and the book it is from is Dr Seuss.

Thing 1 and Thing 2 have blue curly hair and pointy noses. They do the opposite of what you say, for example, if you stand up, they will sit down. The Cat in the Hat has a very tall hat and Things 1 and 2 are very naughty and troublesome all the time.

I chose this charter because I like how you can do it with a partner and the book is very funny as well. By Emma 4SM

My book character’s name is Luke Skywalker from the book Star Wars. 

My character wears a karate outfit with tan straps from the knee down with tan boots. He carries a lightsaber and laser pistol in a utility belt. Luke is a brave man in a team of two other people and one alien princess Leia, Hans and Chewbacca. Princess Leia is the leader of the army fighting the empire.

Hans is brave pilot of a space shuttle with his trusted co-pilot Chewbacca. Luke is a brave man who may be the last jet eye left.  By Owen 4SM

Biome Projects.

The students have been busy working on their biome projects this Term. They have collaborated in teams to research about the different Biomes – Deserts, Temperate Forests, Temperate Grasslands, Tropical Grasslands/Savanna and Tropical Rainforests. As part of their project, the year 4 students have described the location, climate, animals and vegetation of the biomes in Australia, Africa and South America. This project has been digitally presented including maps, diagrams and graphs. They look wonderful and the children will share them with you soon.
