5/6A's Journey Of Growth
Our brains have been doing a whole lot of learning in Term 3!
A moment of appreciation for our second Summer Gala Sports Day (...in Winter)! ❄️
We picked up our Summer sport skills, dusted them off and had a second crack at making it through to the finals - to recap, we played: Volleyball, Cricket, Tennis and Tee-Ball.
“I CALL TO ORDER… THE PARLIAMENT OF 5/6 A!”
In literacy, we have been learning all about Democracy... ✨Aussie style✨
Our wonderful teachers organised a Parliamentary incursion for us and thought that there was no better way to learn about the wild world of Australian politics other than getting our hands dirty! We got a crash course in how the Australian Federal Parliament is set up, all about its strict rules and how the ultimate betrayal lies in “crossing the floor” (we didn’t dare).
We dressed up as politicians, complete with props, debating the most pressing issues of today’s society: whether or not the subject ‘sport’ should exist in everyday schooling… it got quite heated. 5/6A became involved in party politics, mastering the art of preferential voting, and discovered just how tricky it is to get an absolute majority (turns out, not everyone has the same opinion as everyone else! Go figure🤷🏼).
In the spirit of the 2024 Paris Olympics, SJV created our very own version 🥇 the Potato Olympics!
We trained our potato athletes, dressed them up in their little tot-fits and pushed them to the limits in some wacky, action-packed events like the Potato Diving, where our athletes took the plunge; Potato Bowling, where strikes and spares got a whole new meaning; and plenty more tater-filled challenges.
Check out some of our potato athletes in the images above (zoom in to read their legendary profiles)!! It was a day of laughs, friendly competition, and potato-powered fun that left everyone cheering for gold!
This term, 5/6A struck gold—literally! 💰
In an exciting exploration of the Australian Gold Rush, we have been learning about the lives of miners and the challenges they faced. We got hands-on in our literacy learning by creating authentic-looking mining licenses, crafting ‘wanted’ posters about notorious characters, and writing compelling diary entries that brought the 1850’s to life. Through these activities, 5/6A gained a deeper understanding of this pivotal period in Australian history, while letting their creativity shine like a freshly discovered gold nugget!
Our recent immigration incursion explored the reasons behind immigration to Australia. 5/6A gained an understanding of the significant contributions immigrants have made to Australian society. Through engaging hands-on activities we delved into the concept of global citizenship and examined how the world responds to refugees. In our incursion, we also learned about the rights and responsibilities associated with Australian citizenship, fostering an appreciation for the diverse and multicultural fabric of our nation.
