Year 2 News
From Emma, Year 2 teacher
Celebrating National Science Week
We began the week with a series of engaging presentations from some of our very own parent volunteers. These science experts shared some fascinating scientific information and insights, sparking curiosity and excitement among the students. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to see the real-world application of science and to be inspired by the passion and knowledge of our parent community. A big thank you to Raquel and Ed for sharing their scientific understandings with the Year 2 cohort.
Camp Experience
We hosted a variety of incursions and activities throughout the day followed by our Stay Late at school. Our first incursion was Brickworks presented by Supreme Incursions. The gym was transformed into a LEGO wonderland, with four different stations for students to explore their creativity and teamwork skills. Students engaged in building portraits of important community members, creating vibrant community scapes, following instructions to build intricate structures, and designing unique hybrid vehicles. Everyone loved bringing their LEGO creations to life and the creativity was a joy to see.
Next up, we delved into the world of physics with the "Forces in Action" incursion, presented by Mad About Science. Year 2 learned all about the push and pull forces that govern our everyday lives. Through a series of engaging experiments, they explored friction, inertia, and even had a blast using gyroscopes. A highlight of the session was the thrilling experiment where students popped the lid off a test tube, demonstrating the power of pressure and force.
Following a fun day, students had the opportunity to stay late after school for an evening of games and socialising. They enjoyed a variety of fun activities, including Bowling, Rob the Nest, and Duck Duck Goose. This special after-school event allowed students to mingle with their peers, strengthen friendships, and enjoy some relaxed playtime outside the usual school hours.
The fortnight culminated in an exciting excursion to Scienceworks on Thursday. Our students eagerly explored the many interactive exhibits and activities that Scienceworks has to offer. A particular highlight was the Sportsworks area, where many students, inspired by the recent Olympic Games, tested their skills and learned about the science of sports. The thrilling Lightning Show was another standout, leaving students in awe of the power and beauty of electricity. It was a fantastic day that everyone enjoyed!
