Message From Shevani Moodley
Dear Families,
Welcome to Week 4 of Term 3!
This term and year sure are flying! As always, it’s been a busy, productive, and fun few weeks at WNPS.
An enormous thank you to Bec Harding, Phillipa Aksam, Gillian, Sharon Cave, Kirsten Freisler, Shakun Sharma, Gillian Stratham, and Erin Roy for coordinating our 150th celebration last week. It was a very special evening filled with a delightful sense of community.
A heartfelt thanks also to our amazing sponsors: Edgemill Group, Westgate Party Hire, Melbourne Coolroom Hire, Lombard the Party People, Cupcake Queen, Williams Realestate, Bunnings, Western Bulldogs, Damien Oliver, Monza, Sebastian Restaurant, LTYB Gym, Indera Skin & Spa, Mantra Lorne, Essential Lingerie, La Bodega Barber Shop, Zan Zan, Dan Murphy’s, Coles, Healthy Dog Treats, and Replenish Williamstown for their donations that contributed to making the evening a success.
Through your generosity and love of our school. we raised a total of $14,000 which will be spent re-establishing the veggie garden, upgrading play equipment, and sourcing outdoor speakers for Tasmania.
Students in Year 3 and 5 would have received their Individual Student Reports from NAPLAN in the mail last week. When considering these results in relation to previous NAPLAN results, please be reminded that the testing and scoring protocols have changed, and results aren’t comparable. I’ve attached some screenshots from Professional Development I delivered last year regarding comparisons and am happy to chat further in this space if you have any questions/ concerns.
This week, Richard and I attended a residential PL entitled Strengthening Professional Capability of Principals in Koorie Education (SPPIKE) and it was an opportunity for us to reflect on our inclusive practices for Koorie students and how we celebrate cultural diversity within our school community. We’re very much looking forward to chatting with the community about this and implementing small, yet powerful change in this space. Please reach out to either of us for more information or if you’d like to discuss this further.
Pick ups and drop offs are a great time to get into the school and chat to your classroom teacher, if needed, or socialise with other families in your child’s grade. To facilitate this process, each grade is assigned a gate close to the location of their classroom. We humbly ask that you use these entry and exit points as the office can get quite busy in the morning and afternoon. If you do have any questions or need anything, we’re always happy and willing to answer any questions or chat.
Diary Dates:
Fathers Day stall – August 22nd
In helping to celebrate the upcoming Father’s/Special Person Day, we will be hosting a stall on Thursday 22nd August from 9:00am—1:00pm, whereby students will be able to purchase a small gift for dad or someone special in their lives. We recommend that students bring along $5.00 to spend at the stall (for junior students, money placed in a clearly marked envelope with their name and class is suggested).
We would be grateful for any parents who may be available to assist during the morning of the stall. If you could spend an hour or two assisting, please email Jasmyn at: markandjas@me.com or Maria at: maria.lewis17@yahoo.com.au or Rina at: rinasutherland@gmail.com
R U OK? Day is Thursday, 12 September 2024, our annual National Day of Action and a reminder that any day is the day to check in with your friends, family and colleagues.
