Maths Games Day

On the 26th of July, we were proud to attend the prestigious Math Games Day held every year at RMIT. Starting early at 8:45 A.M, our mathematicians faced their competition, blazing with the determination to win it all.

Before our students began their Math Battles, an RMIT mathematics professor introduced the many challenges to be faced. First up were team problem-solving puzzles, namely Yohaku and Kenken. These were followed shortly by what we call ‘Swiss’ rounds, in which our Copperfield students were to sit alternately with another school, fighting to answer questions in rotation. Lastly, we incorporated our physical strength as well as mental in a mathematical relay. We would grab one question, answer it, and run back to the professors to check it. Our speed was tested, both physically and mentally.

Overall, it was a gruelling battle testing our capacity to withstand the onslaught of mathematical equations. Throughout it all, we demonstrated our school’s competitive spirit and academic prowess. Across the thirty-plus top schools from across Melbourne competing, one of our Copperfield teams finished 9th. This was a fantastic result considering the caliber of competition we were up against. We fought tooth and nail, or more accurately, pen and paper, to prove ourselves as top mathematical contenders in this city.

Congratulations to Kabeer Ali, Declan Burt, Luke Galea, Tien Nguyen, Arnav Ramasre, Sehaj Singh, Brandon Tran, and Joshua Villaneza for their outstanding performance at Maths Games Day 2024.
