Student News

School & Vice Captain:

As we progress through the second half of the term, the SRC would like to express its appreciation for the ongoing support and participation shown by students throughout the semester. With a number of exciting events and initiatives on the horizon, we would like to provide the school community with some important updates.

We have taken the initiative to plan and organise our upcoming Prefect Afternoon Tea, a social event that brings together student leaders from a variety of schools across the region. This event aims to provide prefects, captains, and other student leaders with the opportunity to network, exchange ideas, discuss leadership experiences, and build meaningful connections beyond their own school communities. We are currently coordinating the program, activities, and hospitality for the afternoon to ensure it is both engaging and beneficial for all attendees. Through this initiative, we hope to foster stronger relationships between schools and encourage collaboration among young leaders.

In addition, we have been heavily involved in organising activities for our upcoming Vinnies Winter Sleepout. The evening will include a range of activities focused on raising awareness of homelessness and supporting the important work of the St Vincent de Paul Society. Through guest speakers, reflection activities, fundraising efforts, and opportunities for discussion, students will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness. We hope the event will not only raise vital funds for Vinnies but also inspire greater empathy, social awareness, and a commitment to serving those in need within our community.

Connectivity and Inclusion:

Hello Everyone - It is your Connectivity and Inclusion Leaders, Natasha and Simran!

As we are moving along in the year, it is important to understand what inclusion means and why it is important. Creating a school where everyone feels valued starts with inclusion. Inclusion is about recognising that every person brings different strengths, perspectives and experiences to our community. When we take the time to understand and support one another, we build stronger connections and create an environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

As Connectivity and Inclusion Leaders, we are excited to introduce a new initiative called Empathy Workshops. Over the past few months, our portfolio has been working closely with the Arrunga Unit to better understand the different ways people learn. Through these conversations, we have gained valuable insight into the diverse learning styles that exist within our school community and the importance of recognising that there is no single "right" way to learn.

The Empathy Workshops will give students the opportunity to explore different learning experiences, challenge assumptions and develop a deeper understanding of the barriers some people may face. By increasing awareness and encouraging empathy, we hope to inspire students to support one another with greater patience, respect and understanding.

A connected school is one where everyone feels seen, heard and included. By learning more about one another and celebrating our differences, we can create a community where every student feels like they belong. We look forward to sharing this initiative with the school and continuing to build a culture of connection, inclusion and empathy.

That is it from us today, see you next time!

Creative Arts and Cultural:

Hello everyone!

As your Creative & Cultural Leaders, we are excited to share that the School Representative Council (SRC) Canvas page has now been officially launched! This new platform will help keep students informed about upcoming initiatives, events, and opportunities to get involved in school life.

Jonas and I are also looking forward to introducing our Monthly Art Challenge, which launches soon. This initiative aims to celebrate creativity throughout our school community and provide students with a fun opportunity to showcase their artistic talents. Whether you enjoy drawing, painting, photography, digital art, or other creative pursuits, we encourage everyone to get involved.

We also encourage students to regularly visit the Creative & Cultural page on Canvas, where we will be sharing information about important community events, cultural celebrations, upcoming activities, competitions, and opportunities for students to participate and make a positive contribution to school life.

We have been working hard behind the scenes to develop new creative and cultural initiatives, and we are excited to see the enthusiasm and talent of our school community. Keep an eye on the SRC Canvas page and the Creative & Cultural page for future updates and announcements.

We look forward to seeing your creativity shine!

Mission and Faith Development:

Thank you to all students and staff who participated and made Pyjama Day successful! Many students turned up in their warm and cozy clothes. We made sure to remember to check that students still knew what the purpose of the day was, as we interviewed students both young and old about who Vinnies is and what the day meant to them. Thank you for all your wonderful answers!

An upcoming activity that us leaders together with the college captains will be participating in is theLifted - Breakfast With The Bishop. This is a long standing annual tradition with the Parramatta diocese, where select Year 12 leaders students from schools in the diocese discuss issues affecting young people and the Church with the Bishop. This upcoming event will be a great time to connect with other leaders and to continue to represent St Luke’s outside of our school area. We’re looking forward to being able to create meaningful discussions with members of the community, especially around matters surrounding faith in action within the school community.

One social justice event  that we here at St Luke’s is looking forward to is the annual  St Luke’s Vinnies’ Winter Sleepout! It is an immersive experience and a perfect opportunity for students to bond and connect with each other whilst making themselves and the community aware of the issue of homelessness within our community.

Just a  quick reminder that students and staff have the opportunity to participate in the sacrament of Reconciliation on Wednesday mornings (9am to 10am) at school! Please visit the new SRC Canvas page to find the google form for sign up. We thank Father Gayan for being so generous with his time and spiritual guidance of our school community.

That’s all from us today!

Wellbeing:

Hi everyone,

We're excited to share some updates on what we've been working on over the past few weeks to support the wellbeing of our school community!

First of all, thank you to everyone who has already completed our Google Form. Your responses are incredibly valuable and will help us shape our workshops we run going forward. If you haven't filled it in yet, keep an eye out for the link and we'd love to hear from you.

These responses help us design a series of workshops that are on the way. These workshops will focus on topics such as study strategies, note-taking, time management, exam preparation, subject selection, balancing extracurricular commitments, and managing academic stress. They are designed to be relaxed, supportive, and interactive, with opportunities to ask questions and learn from real student experiences. We can't wait to share the exact details with you soon.

On top of that, we're currently putting together an information and promotion video to help spread the word about what wellbeing means for our community. Stay tuned!

Finally, we are expanding our current wellbeing Canvas page in partnership with Ms Arrow with loads more resources that will help students in a plethora of ways.

Thank you for your continued support. We're just getting started!

Next, we will strive to run more exciting events for other grades! Finally, congratulations to Curie House for coming first in the Scissors, Paper, Rock competition last Friday. Below are some photos from our fun game for Year 4.
