Last Monday, at the Spanish Club, we held a special activity to learn about and celebrate Sant Joan, one of the most popular traditions in Catalonia.

We began with a presentation where children learned when Sant Joan is celebrated (the night of June 23rd to 24th), and the traditional customs associated with the festival, such as bonfires, fireworks, and gatherings with family and friends. We also talked about the traditional foods enjoyed during this celebration, especially the famous Coca de Sant Joan.

After the presentation, the children took part in a fun and creative hands-on activity. Each child received a ball of dough to shape and decorate their own Coca de Sant Joan. They used a variety of ingredients to personalise their creations, showing great imagination and enthusiasm.

We would like to give a special thank you to Jaume, who prepared the dough for the activity and baked four delicious Cocas de Sant Joan for the families to enjoy. Thanks to his dedication and generosity, both children and their parents had the opportunity to taste this traditional Catalan pastry and experience an authentic part of Catalan culture.

It was a fun and educational activity that allowed the children to learn about Catalan traditions, while developing their creativity and enjoying a hands-on cultural experience. Everyone went home with their own decorated Coca and a greater understanding of the Sant Joan celebration.
