School Production Important Information for Families

Our school production, La Música Viajera, is fast approaching, and students have been working incredibly hard learning songs, dances, acting roles and stage movements. We are incredibly proud of their commitment and cannot wait to share this wonderful production with our school community.
Every Role Matters
One of the most important things to understand is that every role in the production is essential.
Whether your child is a lead actor, narrator, singer, dancer, musician, stage helper, runner or part of an ensemble, every student contributes to telling the story. Productions rely on every performer being present so that dances, songs and scenes can be rehearsed as intended.
Many performances involve partner work, formations and precise stage movements. When students are absent, it affects not only their own learning but also the confidence and preparation of those around them.
We sincerely appreciate your support in ensuring students attend all rehearsals and performances.

Performance Day Arrangements
On their allocated performance day, students will travel to the Darebin Arts Centre and perform in both a matinee and an evening performance.
Following the matinee, families are asked to collect their child directly from the Darebin Arts Centre, preferably immediately after the performance, between 2:30 by 3:00 pm
Students will then return to the Darebin Arts Centre with their families for the evening performance. Arrival times for the evening performance will be communicated closer to the event.
We strongly encourage families to collect students after the matinee wherever possible. Having time at home allows students to:
- Rest and recharge.
- Eat a proper meal.
- Change if required.
- Return refreshed and ready to perform their best during the evening show.
Students attending After School Care will have the option of travelling back to school by bus following the matinee. Further information and a confirmation form will be sent closer to the event.
Please note that a small number of Year 5/6 students have been allocated to a different production cast from their usual class. These students have already been informed. The vast majority of students will perform with their home class.
Full Dress Rehearsal – Monday 17 August
To ensure every student feels confident and prepared before performance week, we will hold a full dress rehearsal at the Darebin Arts Centre.
Rehearsing in the actual theatre is invaluable. It allows students to:
- Become familiar with the theatre environment.
- Practise entrances and exits.
- Learn where they will be seated backstage.
- Experience performing on a professional stage.
- Build confidence before performing for a large audience.
To make this rehearsal possible while also keeping production costs as low as possible, we have organised different arrangements for the two production casts. By asking families to assist with one drop-off or collection, we significantly reduce transport costs, allowing more of our production budget to be spent on creating the best possible experience for our students.

Why These Arrangements?
These arrangements have been carefully planned to provide students with valuable rehearsal time in the theatre while also keeping production costs to a minimum.
By having families assist with one drop-off or one collection, we significantly reduce the number of buses required throughout the day. This saving allows the school to direct more funding towards lighting, sound, costumes, staging and creating the best possible production for our students. We suggest families organise a carpool and support each other in these matters.
We greatly appreciate your support and flexibility in helping make this possible.
Thank you for your continued support throughout this exciting journey.
Our students have demonstrated remarkable commitment, resilience and enthusiasm, and we look forward to celebrating their achievements with you at La Música Viajera.
