WELCOME BACK TO TERM 3
I hope all of our students, families, and staff enjoyed a well-deserved and restful holiday break, with plenty of opportunities to relax, recharge, and spend quality time with family and friends. It has been wonderful to see our students return with smiling faces, renewed enthusiasm, and a readiness to embrace the exciting learning opportunities that lie ahead. Term 3 is always a busy and rewarding term, and we are looking forward to another wonderful season of learning, growth, and achievement across our school.
Throughout the term, students can look forward to a range of engaging classroom learning experiences, excursions, sporting events, incursions, wellbeing initiatives, and opportunities to showcase their talents. Our senior students will continue to build their leadership skills as they prepare for their transition to secondary school, while all students will be challenged to strive for personal excellence and celebrate their progress.
We are also excited to continue strengthening the partnership between home and school through community events and celebrations that bring our families together. We thank our school community for your ongoing support and look forward to another successful term filled with learning, friendship, and memorable experiences.
WELCOME BACK TO OUR STAFF
We are delighted to welcome Ms Smit-Geason back to Moorabbin Primary School following her period of leave overseas. We hope she enjoyed the opportunity to travel, and return refreshed for the term ahead. Ms Smit-Geason will be taking over Year 4J following the departure of Ms Jackson, who recently made the difficult decision to relocate to Sydney to be with her family. We thank Ms Jackson for her contribution to our school and wish her every success and happiness as she begins this new chapter. We know our Year 4J students and families will warmly welcome Ms Smit-Geason as she joins them for the remainder of the year.
We are also very pleased to welcome Ms Howden back to our school community. Ms Howden will be returning in a part-time capacity (Wednesday-Friday), supporting students and classrooms across Foundation, Year 4 and Year 6. In addition, she will be delivering Music Therapy sessions every Friday afternoon, providing valuable wellbeing support for students who may benefit from this program. Families interested in accessing the Music Therapy Program are reminded to complete the Expression of Interest that was sent via the Compass link at the end of Term 2. We encourage parents and carers to submit the form if they believe their child would benefit from participating in this wonderful initiative.
PLANNING FOR 2027
Even though it is the beginning of a new term as a Principal I start to review enrolment numbers along with our current programs and how we can continue to offer what we have with projections for the year ahead. I kindly ask families to notify the school office as soon as possible if your child or family will not be returning to Moorabbin Primary School next year (excluding our Year 6 students transitioning to secondary school).
Early notification is extremely valuable, as it allows us to accurately plan class structures, staffing, specialist programs, and resource allocation to best meet the needs of our students. When we are unaware that families are leaving, it can significantly impact workforce planning and the organisation of classes, often requiring changes later in the year that could otherwise have been avoided. Your assistance in keeping us informed is greatly appreciated and helps us ensure we are well prepared to provide the best possible learning environment for all students in 2027.
A BUSY AND EXCITING TERM AHEAD!
Term 3 is shaping up to be another exciting and event-filled term at Moorabbin Primary School, with many opportunities for our students and families to come together, celebrate learning, and enjoy our wonderful school community.
We encourage all families to regularly check the Compass Calendar, where important dates, excursions, incursions, sporting events, camps, fundraising activities, and whole-school celebrations are updated throughout the term. In addition, our Parents and Friends (P&F) Committee has once again been hard at work preparing a dedicated community events calendar, which will be shared with families shortly.
This calendar will highlight all of the fantastic events being organised by our P&F throughout the remainder of the year, making it easy for families to plan ahead and be involved in our vibrant school community.
There is certainly plenty to look forward to this term! Students will enjoy a range of fun dress-up days, fundraising activities, our ever-popular Father's Day Stall, the exciting Year 5 Camp, and the Bunnings BBQ, which continues to be a wonderful opportunity to support our school while bringing our community together. One of the major highlights of the term will be our bi-annual Science Fair, where students will have the opportunity to investigate, create, experiment and proudly showcase their scientific thinking and discoveries to families and friends.
We also eagerly anticipate celebrating the 100 Days of Foundation, one of the most cherished milestones on our school calendar. This special day is always filled with laughter, creativity and memorable learning experiences as our youngest students celebrate 100 days of growth, friendship and achievement. These events are always incredibly well supported by our families, and we look forward to another wonderful term of learning, celebration and community involvement.

A MESSAGE FROM THE VEEP - Laura Bos
Hi! I’m the School Council’s Veep – or Vice President. I’ve been a member of School Council since 2024 and I’m still going strong!
WHY DID I JOIN THE SCHOOL COUNCIL?
I wanted to give back to the school community for the incredible support my eldest son received during some challenging times with anxiety and navigating life as a neurodivergent child. I’m so grateful to be part of such an inclusive and caring school, and as our community continues to grow, I’m passionate about helping to ensure it remains a welcoming place where every child and family feels they belong.
WHAT IS IT LIKE BEING ON SCHOOL COUNCIL?
Before joining, I imagined long, formal meetings filled with policies and paperwork. Thankfully, that couldn't be further from the truth! Our School Council is made up of a wonderful group of parents and staff who genuinely care about our students and our school. We enjoy working together to support new ideas, strengthen what already makes Moorabbin Primary such a great place, and collaborate with Mrs Angelides and Mr Corrigan to help continue building the positive culture and opportunities our community values. There's plenty of laughter along the way too!
WHERE DO YOU WANT TO MAKE THE MOST DIFFERENCE?
One of my passions is ensuring children have a real childhood and are protected in an increasingly digital world. With young people accessing technology earlier than ever before, we're seeing growing concerns around mental health, online safety and exposure to risks that previous generations never had to navigate.
The School Council is proud to support initiatives that help educate and empower families in this important area. We are excited to offer a free parent workshop presented by former detective Kristi McVee, titled "What I Wish Every Parent Knew." The workshop will be held on Wednesday 28 October, and we encourage all parents and carers to save the date. Further information will be shared with the community closer to the event.
A WONDERFUL NEW SPACE FOR OUR STUDENTS
We are delighted to share that our new play area, located adjacent to the basketball courts, is now complete and already proving to be a fantastic addition to our school grounds. This welcoming space has been proudly funded by our dedicated Parents and Friends (P&F) Committee and in particular the majority of funds came from the Mother’s Day luncheon Fundraiser.
The ongoing commitment to enhancing opportunities for our students continues to make a significant difference, we thank you all so very much! The new area provides students with another engaging space to connect with friends, play creatively, and enjoy their outdoor time in a safe and inviting environment. It has quickly become a popular destination during recess and lunchtime, with students thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to explore and make the space their own.
The addition of this beautifully presented play area has further enhanced the look and feel of our school grounds, creating a clean, vibrant and engaging environment for all members of our community. We extend our sincere thanks to our incredible P&F Committee and the many families who continue to support fundraising initiatives throughout the year. It is through your generosity, enthusiasm and commitment that projects such as this become a reality. We encourage all students to take pride in this wonderful new space by using it safely, treating it with respect and helping us keep it looking its very best for many years to come.
OUR SCHOOL CAPTAIN IN THE COMMUNITY
We were incredibly proud to see one of our School Captains, Eve, representing Moorabbin Primary School at a recent Kingston City Council community event in Parkdale. Eve was invited to attend the official opening of the new sporting ground lighting and storage facilities and was honoured with the special role of cutting the ceremonial ribbon alongside community leaders. This wonderful opportunity reflects Eve's growing involvement in local community events and the leadership qualities she demonstrates both within and beyond our school.
A special thank you to Eve and her family for sharing this wonderful moment with our school community. Eve asked us to pass on her heartfelt thanks to the staff at Moorabbin Primary School for supporting and encouraging her on her leadership journey, saying, "Thank you for helping me get there." We are incredibly proud of Eve and look forward to seeing her continue to represent our school with such confidence, kindness and pride.
