From the School Leadership Team

L'équipe de direction de CJC

Dear CJC community,

Good afternoon and welcome back to start of term 3. We have begun the term very smoothly and our staff and students returned very quickly into their learning and teaching programs.

Bastille day.

We had a wonderful day on Tuesday, celebrating the French language, culture and community with all our students, staff and families. The students thoroughly enjoyed the parade, afternoon activities and after school events.

Year 3 and 4 swimming commences next week. We will be using the new entrance gate for students travelling on buses to and from the pool. We also remind families that we will need access for buses arriving and departing the front of the school. A further complication will be power upgrade works being undertaken in the main building. This important work will see the access to the front of the school restricted. Children arriving earlier at school will be asked to wait inside the new playground space to avoid waiting on the footpath in Balaclava Road.

NAPLAN.

This week our families from years 3 and 5 received their NAPLAN results. The National assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy provides feedback for staff and students on an assessment completed in March. This important information assists staff in planning instruction, provides feedback to families on student progress and ability and informs our school around teaching and learning opportunities for staff and students.

Parent Teacher Conferences.

In the last week of term, we held our Parent Teacher conferences. Thank you to everyone involved and for your willingness to share in with staff regarding student achievement, their progress, and the important next steps for learning.

Industrial Action.

We have been informed that the Australian Education Union is planning industrial action for Thursday July 23rd. This is approved action and involves staff attending stop work meetings and not undertaking workplace duties as part of this action. We have communicated to all families via Compass this intention to strike. Once we have further information available  we will communicate to the community the arrangements for this day of industrial action.

Parking around the school.

In recent times our neighbours have contacted the school about parents parking across driveways and restricting access to their homes at key times of the day. We ask all families to be considerate of our neighbours, follow the parking restrictions and signage and obeying the road rules. Please also be vigilant around pedestrians crossing the roads, students travelling on their bikes and children accessing cars around the school.

School Review.

This week we have been working with students and some families who are sharing their insights and feedback around how the school operates. Ms. Ashleigh Bell from Cranbourne South PS is doing this work in preparation for the School Review planned for October 26th.  Ashleigh is completing her DET Internship program for Aspirant School Leaders. The Review will drive the development of the next four year Strategic Plan for CJC.

Our Year 3-4 students and their teachers will be heading off to camp in Week 6, from Monday 17th to Wednesday 19th of August! This is always a highlight of the school year, giving students the chance to step outside the classroom, build new friendships, and take on exciting outdoor activities together.

📋 Important reminders for parents:

  • Please complete the medical form as soon as possible
  • Don't forget to finalise consent and payment via Compass

We can't wait to see the memories our students make at camp this year!

Year 6-7 Transition.

In the last week of term you would have received an email from Caulfield Junior College with the Year 7 Placement details for your child.

Some dates to remember...

  • Please 'Everyone' complete the acceptance form and send it back to the school before 11th August.  Thank you to the families who have already done so.
  • For those families who are appealing the decision made, you MUST lodge your appeal with the Secondary School by this Friday 17th July.  (Today)

Appeals forms were sent with an email in the last week of term.  Please use the form supplied.

Carpark boom gate.

Yesterday we reinstalled the carpark boom gate that was removed when portables were placed on the staff carpark in 2025.

Prep enrolment deadline.

A reminder to families that the Prep enrolment deadline is July31st. This online process is a new one for us and is proving to be a positive addition to the management of our 2027 students.

Wishing you all a great weekend,

Chris Chant, Principal.

Parent Teacher Interviews.

Parents and carers are invited to provide any feedback they have in relation to the parent teacher interviews last term.

Please direct any feedback you have to Mr. Borg through Compass.

Any feedback we receive will be taken into consideration when planning next year’s interviews. Please keep in mind that we do have restrictions with what we can accommodate due to workplace agreements and time in lieu considerations.

We do strive to have an interview process that is purposeful for all stakeholders.

Regards,

Mr. Borg, Assistant Principal.
