Singing Our Way Through Italian Learning!

Our Foundation to Grade 6 students have been enjoying the wonderful experience of learning Italian through music, song, and movement. Singing is a fantastic way to reinforce language concepts while making learning fun, memorable, and engaging.

Students have been singing songs that support the Italian topics explored in class, including numbers, colours, weather, family vocabulary, and cultural learning. They have also enjoyed learning songs connected to historical figures such as Leonardo da Vinci, bringing history and language together in a creative way.

A special highlight has been exploring the story of Pinocchio, with students singing along to Geppetto’s song and developing their understanding of characters and vocabulary from this much-loved Italian tale.

The children love singing and dancing along with Nadia Cavallo and Mr Oopy. After meeting Nadia during Italian Day, students have been even more excited and connected to the music experience. Mr Oopy brings incredible energy and enthusiasm to every session, working alongside teachers to create educational songs that align with the units of work being covered in the classroom.

Our Senior students were especially privileged to enjoy the Leonardo da Vinci songs, created following a special request while students were exploring Leonardo’s life, achievements, and contributions.

Through music, movement, and creativity, students are strengthening their Italian skills while having fun. Singing provides a joyful and effective way for children to build vocabulary, confidence, and a love of the Italian language and culture.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

In the last few weeks students have continued to work wonderfully to develop their AFL abilities, such as kicking and marking. We have been putting these skills to the test in a variety of games and activities.

It has been heart-warming to see students stepping beyond their comfort zone and trying their best to learn and grow.

Well done to you all for another fantastic term full of effort and fun.

I hope everyone enjoys the holiday period, and go the Socceroos!

STEAM

Foundation

It has been a very busy term for the Foundation students, exploring painting and printmaking. They also had the opportunity to work with Paper Magiclay to create a picture on a canvas. They also used the Magiclay to make Mini Beasts.  Some of these items will be on show at the Art Show in Week 4, Term 3. This week the students also learnt about how to weave using paper.

Year 2

In Year 2, the students have been learning about Printmaking using a variety of objects such as sponges, paper cups, straws, and cotton buds. They explored patterns to create the prints and then cut them up into the shape of fruit to make a fruit basket.

Here are some photos of the students focused on their learning.

THANKS Deb!!
THANKS Deb!!

Thank you so much to Deb who replaced me on Wednesdays to take Music across the school while my ankle healed and until I was able to manage the stairs! Deb did everything with a smile and took on the noise of our busy music room happily - Thanks a bunch Deb.

It was so wonderful to be back in the Music Room this week for the majority of classes.

On Tuesday, the Year 3/4 students continued their unit on Soundscapes by creating their own soundscape or sound story in small groups with instruments. They used their knowledge of different instruments, the dynamics of music (soft and loud) and also the tempo (fast and slow) to adapt their soundscape. The students improvised-which is a great way to create something magic musically! Some groups created a soundscape that sounded like the jungle, others created ocean shore sounds and another group created the croaking of frogs in a swamp!
