Deputy Principals' Address

Mr. Mifsud
This term has been bustling with incredible opportunities that have enriched our students’ development, everything from Big Night Out, Volleyball, Boccia, and Art Club, to AI & Robotics Day, STEAM and RAISE mentoring, Athletics and Cross-Country Carnivals, Dance Mentoring, and Music Excursions, just to name a few. I congratulate all the students who took the initiative to participate in these extra‑curricular events and thank the dedicated teachers who made them possible.
Looking ahead, our school is advancing along the pathway of High Potential and Gifted Education, with our first step being the identification of students demonstrating high potential across academic, creative, and personal spheres. We will soon be introducing formal programs, tailored curriculum opportunities, and structured support to foster this promising talent, there’s much more to come in this area!
Student Reports: Students in Years 7–10 will receive their Semester 1 academic reports on Friday, July 4. It’s been a pleasure reading the insightful feedback from teachers, highlighting both academic progress and high levels of engagement in classrooms. Reports clearly reflect students embracing new challenges, mastering new skills, and growing in confidence and resilience. I encourage all students to continue their hard work and invite classmates to join them on their learning journey.
I invite families to ask your child for their report, review it together, reflect on both grades and comments, and collaboratively set learning goals for the rest of the year. Reports will also be available on the SENTRAL Parent Portal.
Enjoy a well-deserved and restful break. School resumes for all students on Tuesday, July 22, 2025!
Ms. Batista De Mello
As we conclude an exciting term, I would like to celebrate the recent events that have united our school community and highlighted our commitment to Honour, Excellence, Responsibility, and Opportunity.
ANZAC Day Commemorations: On April 27, 2025, our Year 12 Captains represented J J Cahill Memorial High School at the Mascot RSL Sub-Branch ANZAC Day Memorial march and ceremony. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Mascot RSL Sub-Branch for hosting such a meaningful event and to our Captains for laying a wreath on our behalf. It served as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by those who served.
ANZAC Day Assembly: On May 2, 2025, we held a formal assembly to honour all current and former members of the armed forces. We were privileged to welcome distinguished guests, including Lieutenant Commander (retired) Rachael Cosgrove-White, who recited the ode, and Lieutenant Brendon Lukin, who played the bugle for the Last Post and led our minute of silence. Special thanks to the Music Faculty, Year 11 student Joanna-Lee, and our Year 7 Choir for their beautiful performances of the New Zealand and Australian anthems. I commend our Year 12 Captains, Michael, Tahlia, and Tiana, for their leadership during the assembly, as well as Tanesha and our tech crew for their exceptional coordination.
Democratic Sausage Sizzle BBQ: This term, we held a Democratic Sausage Sizzle BBQ. A huge thank you to our SRC coordinator and our Student Representative Council (SRC), parents, staff and the community for making this event a success. Your support helps us promote our school and engage our students in the democratic process.
Big Night Out XX: A special thank you to all staff, particularly the Music faculty , and parents who contributed to the success of our Big Night Out. Your hard work and dedication never go unnoticed. Thank you to our parent volunteers for their help with the BBQ and raffle, which made for a fantastic evening that brought our community together.
Reconciliation Week Gathering: On June 3, 2025, from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM, we held a Community Gathering to celebrate #NationalReconciliationWeek. We extend our gratitude to the Hon. Matt Thistlethwaite MP and Karen M. Brown O.A.M., an alumnus of J J Cahill Memorial High School, for joining us for this special event. Special thanks to Ms. Welch, the staff, and students who led and participated in this gathering.
The Great STEAM Challenge III: I am thrilled to share that The Great STEAM Challenge III has once again been a remarkable project! This initiative fostered collaboration among primary school students as they worked in mixed groups to design solar cars. Witnessing their initial concerns transform into excitement as they met new peers was heartwarming.
I was honoured to work alongside our Engineering teacher whose dedication to public education and student success is inspiring. His expertise in TAS/Engineering has been invaluable, especially with the innovative design changes he introduced this year.
We also extend our gratitude to all staff who led and supported the students. Thank you to our primary schools, Mascot Public School, Eastlakes Public School, Botany Public School, and Gardeners Road Public School, and all participants for making this year’s challenge a success.
Let us cherish the connections we build within our community and celebrate the achievements of our students.
