Welcome to Term 3. VPC staff and students have started the term with a positive mindset and resilience to overcome any challenges during the term.  We as a team are creating, innovating and changing our ways of learning and doing things which ultimately will be of benefit to the staff, students and the community.  At Kurnai College, the VPC program gives learners the opportunity to explore different pathways to success, and to prepare themselves for future jobs and challenges.

These are some highlights from the beginning of Term 3:

Numeracy

The learners have been applying their knowledge of shapes, lines of symmetry and scale measurements to design glider wings. The learners have been diligent and excited about working on designing and flying their gliders. The purpose of the wing design is to establish if there is more glide when they produce a long and thin wing design, which slows down the glider or when they produce a short or wide wing design there is less glide, which creates a faster glider.

Literacy

Students have been working on individual or group projects to present in a digital or written format to the whole class. The learning requires students to find an area of interest to spark creativity and innovation and to apply this knowledge as catalyst for change in their lives and the community. Students also attended the Yong Performance at the Arts Centre Melbourne on the 30th of July 2025.  They were well behaved and represented the college with pride. This experience stimulated their critical and creating thinking skills and intercultural capabilities.

Work-Related Skills

Learners participated in the Job Skills Expo held at Lardner Park, Warragul on the 29th of July 2025.

Students selected 2 different industries during the Job Skills Expo and answered the questions on the “Jobs for Future” worksheet as part of their Work- Related Skills task.

Community Projects

The learners during Term 3 will be at the Hazelwood Estate every Tuesday from 8:30am -2:30pm working on various hands-on projects that will be of benefit to them and the community. This innovation is a different way of doing things in our campus to actively engage the learners to develop life skills which will prepare them for the future. The students have started constructing wood structures for the garden beds at the Hazelwood Estate. Here are some photos of them at work in the woodwork station.

Personal Development and Skills

Students have started working on hand-made projects for the VCEVM / VPC Market to be held in the last week of Term 3. The focus of Personal Development Skills this semester is Community Awareness and Community Participation.
