Bike Ed!

Grade 6 Students Pedal into Bike Safety and Skills with AusCycling!
Over the past four Tuesdays, our Grade 6 students have taken part in the AusBike Bicycle Education Program, delivered by AusCycling. This exciting four-session program provided a fantastic opportunity for students to build their bike handling skills, develop road safety awareness, and learn basic bike maintenance—all in a fun and active way.
Across the four weeks, students engaged in:
Essential Bike Checks using the A-B-C-D-E method (Air, Brakes, Chain, Drop, End Plugs) to ensure their bikes were safe to ride. They learned how to assess their tyres, brakes, chains and handlebars before each ride.
Road Safety Smarts, where they practised safe riding behaviours and developed awareness of their surroundings while riding in groups.
Bike Handling and Confidence-Building Activities, including obstacle courses, starting and stopping techniques, cornering, and riding in straight lines and tight spaces.
Bike Maintenance Basics, like identifying and addressing common issues such as low tyre pressure and noisy chains.
The program not only enhanced the students’ physical coordination and fitness but also promoted independence and safe riding habits that they can use both now and into the future. It was inspiring to see the students grow in confidence each week while having fun with their classmates.
We’d like to thank the team from AusCycling for their engaging and professional delivery of the program—and a big congratulations to our Grade 6s for their enthusiastic participation!
