Year 6 Art Excursion to the Islamic Museum

Grade 6 Art excursion to the Islamic Museum of Australia
Marhaba (hello in Arabic)
A few weeks ago, Grade 6 went to the Islamic Museum of Australia. When we got there, we were introduced to the Islamic Museum, which opened in 2010. We learned about the Five Pillars of Islam: Shahada (declaration of faith), Salah (prayer), Zakat (giving to charity), Sawm (fasting during Ramadan), and Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca).
We did a scavenger hunt through multiple rooms and while we searched, we learned a lot about Islamic Culture.
Did you know that Chess was introduced to Persia and was modified there, becoming known as Shatranj? And that the Bishop used to be an elephant?
We also learned all about the culture of Islam and their sculpture and designs and we made mosaic tile artworks which was surprisingly fun!
All in all, it was a great day and we learned a lot!
