Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers

We have made it to the end of a long term and it has been great to see the growth made by students.

Gratitude

A shout out to all of our students who donated their Colour Run prizes to Djirra.  Djirra was overwhelmed with the generosity of our families.  These toys will bring happiness and joy to  children affected by domestic violence.

Child Safe Standards  - Child Safe Standard 5: Diversity and Equity

As part of our commitment to child safety, we consider the child safe standards on a regular basis.  Through Child Safe Standard 5: Diversity and Equity we are required to focus on creating environments where all children and young people feel welcome.  At our most recent assembly, we considered the meaning of racism and the impact racism has on people.  Links were also made to our school value, Inclusiveness.  Following the assembly, classes watched age appropriate videos exploring racism and engaged in discussions to further develop their understandings.

Grade 3JF created the following mind map to explore their understanding of racism.

As a community it is important that we create a culture that is anti-racist and does not tolerate racism.  We know that it is important for us to talk to children about race and racism because they develop their attitudes and beliefs about diversity and racism from a very early age.

Two resources you may find useful to support you to talk to your child about racism or answering questions as they arise are:

Unicef - Talking to your kids about racism

Raising Children Website - Racism: Talking to children and teenagers

In preparation for our return next term, we ask that all families familiarise themselves with our before and after school supervision requirements.

Before and after school supervision

Clifton Hill Primary School’s grounds are supervised by school staff from 8:45am until 9:00am and 3:30pm-3:45pm.   Outside of these hours, school staff will not be available to supervise students.

Students should not attend Clifton Hill Primary School outside of these hours unsupervised by a parent/carer. TeamKids is our Outside School Hours Care provider. Families will need to register with TeamKids if you wish to use the Outside School Hours Care program. If you have not used TeamKids before then you will need to register your child before you add your bookings. Please go to the website www.teamkids.com.au and select the program and follow the enrolment instructions.

If a student arrives at school before supervision commences at the beginning of the day, the child will be asked to sit at the school office.  If this is a regular occurrence, the principal or nominee staff member will follow up with the parent/carer to:

·   advise of the supervision arrangements before school

·   request that the parent/ carer make alternate arrangements.

If a student is not collected before supervision finishes at the end of the day, the principal or nominee staff member will consider whether it is appropriate to:

·   attempt to contact the parents/carers

·   attempt to contact the emergency contacts

·   place the student in an out of school hours care program (if available and the parent consents)

·   contact Victoria Police and/or the Department of Health and Human Services (Child Protection) to arrange for the supervision, care and protection of the student.

We look forward to seeing you back for the start of Term 3 on Tuesday 22nd July.

(Just a reminder that school finishes at 2:30pm today).

Wishing you a happy break with your children.

Warm regards,

Megan
