Berwick College Choreographic Competition
On Friday, 20th June, we held our annual Berwick College Choreographic Competition with over 80 students’ competing. Students showcased their own choreography supported by their dance teachers. Students had agency over their dance styles, music, costuming and who they collaborated with teaching them critical skills to enhance their outcomes throughout the BCDA program and VCE Dance.
Thank you to our adjudicator Gulcan Gulen from Fountain Gate Secondary College and past BCDA student and school captain Regan Gay for being our penciler. Both had so many positive comments about our students.
We are very proud of each of them!
Overall winners of the competition are as follows:
Overall Adjudicators Award – Estelle Greene
Encouragement Award – Brianna Sanderson and Sripriya Nelaturi
Hip Hop Award – Alexis Adams

Ballet Award – Grace Elkin
Tap Award – Evie Blunt

Hadestown Performance Excursion
On 2nd July, students from our VET and Year 9 dance classes, adventured into the city to watch the Tony and Grammy award-winning production of 'Hadestown'. Students first explored the State Library and worked in small groups completing pre-performance tasks to allow students to make the most out of seeing the live performance. Students explored characters, links to music, drama and literacy and the storyline. After the performance students had the opportunity to talk to production and cast members from the show and ask questions around rehearsals, performance and their personal experiences in the industry. Overall, it was a terrific day filled with inspiration, laughs and getting to know students from different year levels.
Year 7 Workshops
Our Year 7 class has been working extremely hard on building their movement vocabulary.
Students have participated in jazz, lyrical and contemporary workshops with past BCDA students, Regan Gay and Tara Kaur.
We love bringing back our alumni and hearing about what their journey after school looks like.
We can’t wait to see the growth of our year 7’s from our Choreographic Competition to our Junior Production later in the year.
