High Achievers' Program

High Achievers' Program (HAP) Events
Year 10 HAP students visited the Centre for Higher Education Studies in South Yarra for an Expo Day. The students heard from keynote speaker Prof. Eva Kyndt, learned how to navigate university studies and the future of work; explored study options at several major Victorian universities and potential VCE courses through CHES.
Year 7 HAP students enjoyed a day of interschool debating. Clyde Secondary and Berwick College students debated many diverse topics such as, "All sports should be equally funded", or "That we should ban AI from replacing human jobs". Clyde Secondary are in their 3rd year of membership with the Debating Association of Victoria (DAV) and had their year 10 debating students come along to mentor and give feedback on the day. This was considered a friendly introduction to debating but the Year 7 HAP students were pleased to take the win on the majority of the 18 debates held. The students researched, argued and spoke well. Berwick College will be offering interested students the chance to join DAV's Junior Program in Term 3. A big thank you to Clyde Secondary and their HAP program, we are looking forward to many more shared events.
Year 8 HAP students had a creative day working with media equipment to support their Multi-modal Advertising Unit in English. The students had the opportunity to work with Ryan, an industry media technician, who bought in all the equipment. The students learned about screen media presentation.
Every student created a product script to advertise a product for either a podcast or radio. There was not many jingles performed, but plenty of influencer interviews. I was sold on the idea of a luxury beach holiday or purchasing a new power drink. The advertising task that required plenty of group work was the creation of a stop motion ad. Patience and practice were needed to work with the digital camera setup and achieve the best animated effect to sell a product.
