School Council Report

The most recent meeting of the Berwick College Council was held at the College on Tuesday, 17th June. Members participated in the Department's Governance Training to ensure our school council members understand the different roles and responsibilities of school council and the key principles underpinning effective governance. Ultimately, school councils ensure that decisions are made in the best interests of all students and members look for opportunities to enhance the educational opportunities for present and future students.
This term members have enjoyed hearing of significant school activities, such as the Presentation Balls, Frost and Kenny Day, Cross Country, the school Production Matilda, Careers Expo, Year 12 Formal and the Athletics Carnival.
Reports on student achievements this term have noted the results of the Dance Academy in their State Final, the rigorous examination process for years 10 to 12 being extremely beneficial and meaningful for students and members were delighted to receive the news that the Basketball Academy U17 Boys Team will represent Australia in Singapore.
Josie's Principal report particularly noted the early pieces of work that continues in response to the school review in Term 1 and council received reports from the subcommittees (Policy and Planning, Finance) and from student members Tinaya and Skye.
Finance reports for April and May noted low parent/carer contributions, which supplement government funding and are essential for the operation of the school's curriculum programs, the provision of specialist staff and additional equipment and resources.
In 2024, the locally raised funds, as well as the Building Trust and Library Funds, which are tax deductible, supported the following initiatives:
To upgrade student lockers and drinking stations
To commence the student toilets, refresh project
To roll out digital screens to every classroom
To provide a wide range of programs and curriculum experiences
To provide wellbeing programs and initiatives to support students.
This support has made significant difference to the school environment, student wellbeing and the extended learning programs we offer.
