SMR Cross Country – Braving the Elements at Ballam Park
On Wednesday, 25th June, 23 dedicated Berwick College students took on the Southern Metropolitan Region (SMR) Cross Country event at Ballam Park — and what a day it was!
Despite facing cold temperatures, constant rain, and even hail at times, our students showed incredible resilience and school spirit as they pushed through the challenging conditions to represent Berwick College with pride. The event demanded true grit, with our older boys completing a tough 5km course and the remaining students running 3km, all with the aim of finishing in the top 12 to qualify for the State Championships.
The wet weather didn’t dampen spirits, thanks in part to the comfort of our team tent which provided a much-needed shelter and a place to stay warm and dry between races.
A big congratulations to all students who participated — your determination, effort, and positive attitude in such difficult conditions was truly commendable. It’s not easy to compete in such extreme weather, and your commitment to giving your best is something to be proud of.
Year 7 Boys Soccer
Early in Term 2 a group of year 7 boys travelled to Lawson Poole Reserve for an inter-school soccer competition. The boys played two games to see if they could make the semi-finals and were able to win one and draw the other.
They played valiantly in the semi to lose one nil. Super proud of their efforts showing great resilience and sportsmanship throughout the day. David Cliff
The Importance of Timely Consent and Payment for Interschool Sports
At Berwick College we are proud to offer our students the opportunity to represent the school through a variety of interschool sports. These events are a valuable part of our extra-curricular program, promoting teamwork, school spirit and personal growth.
However, we would like to remind families of the importance of providing timely consent and payment for these events. When students are selected to represent the College, a great deal of planning goes into organising transport, supervision, team structure and communication with external sporting bodies.
When consent and payment are not received by the due date, it can lead to significant complications. In some cases, we are forced to withdraw entire teams from competitions due to an insufficient number of confirmed participants. This not only disappoints students who were looking forward to representing the school but also affects the integrity of the event and results in our school being fined by the Casey North Division Coordinator for late team withdrawals.
To help us avoid this outcome, we ask parents and carers to please ensure that consent and payments are made by the specified deadlines. If your child is no longer able to participate in an event after initially expressing interest, please notify the Sports Coordinator as soon as possible. This gives us the opportunity to offer the place to another student and ensures we can continue to field teams at upcoming events.
Your support and cooperation help us provide the best possible sporting experiences for our students. Thank you for helping us maintain Berwick College’s strong presence in interschool sport.
