VCE - Vocational Major

For semester one of the VCE VM Numeracy curriculum, students demonstrated their understanding across three major projects. They first investigated their future employment industries, looking into Enterprise Bargaining Agreements (EBAs) to examine income, tax, superannuation, allowances, and GST considerations.

The cohort then moved on to designing a tiny home, including creating scale floor plans, 1:1 floor plans and physically constructing a scale model. In doing so, students demonstrated a strong understanding of shape, measurement, and spatial reasoning.

To round out the semester students planned international holidays, dealing with time zones, budgeting, and planning an itinerary. This culminated with students producing a brochure to communicate their planned holidays.

We’re proud of how our students have engaged with these projects and applied numeracy in meaningful, relevant ways. We look forward to building on this momentum in Semester Two.

Year 11 PDS

This term in Personal Development Skills, year 11 students explored a range of key concepts to support their growth in communication, collaboration and critical thinking. A major focus was understanding common interpersonal challenges in the workplace. Students researched these challenges and demonstrated their understanding by developing scripts and producing videos that showcased strategies for effective communication and conflict resolution. Additionally, students examined how health is shaped by where we live and our access to key liveability factors. As part of this unit, they completed a Liveability Walk through the suburbs of Berwick, gathering evidence of local features that contribute to community wellbeing. This experience was followed by a reflection and an evaluation of the area’s overall liveability.

Year 12 WRS Excursion

On Tuesday, June 3rd, our year 12 Work Related Skills students had the valuable opportunity to visit the historic Victorian Trades Hall Council. The excursion supported their learning around workplace rights, responsibilities, and how to navigate issues such as bullying and harassment in professional settings.

Students engaged in informative sessions that deepened their understanding of fair work practices, safety, and employee protections—knowledge that is essential as they prepare to transition from school to the workforce.

The day was both engaging and enlightening, with students expressing how much they enjoyed the experience and how empowered they felt by the information shared. It was a meaningful step in equipping our Berwick College students with the confidence and skills to advocate for themselves in the workplace—next year and beyond as proud alumni.
