We hope that you all had a wonderful holiday and that the students are looking forward to beginning Term 3. This term we have some new Investigation areas, including a Vet and Discovery Science and Technology lab to support our subject focus of Science.  Students are always excited to explore the new areas during Investigation time.  

WEEKLY AWARDS

Each Monday afternoon, one student from each class receives an award. This term, awards are given to students displaying the qualities of Henry Backhaus including independence, persistence, using their initiative and doing something which may challenge them. Award winners will be acknowledged at the next assembly on the slide show. Congratulations to the award winners for term 2 week 11. Included are the photos of the students from week 11.

READERS

As we begin to learn our new sets of letters, you will notice your child may start to bring home some new readers. These new books have lots of new sounds and words we may not have covered at school, so children might find these particularly challenging to begin with. Thank you for your support with reading every morning/night at home.  Also in the back of the students' Term 3 reading logs is a copy of all of the tricky words which the students have previously learnt, as well as the new words. Can you please continue to practice these words daily alongside reading.

• Sounds ‘u’ ‘b’ 
• Students have been using the sounds they have learnt to write words within sentences.  
• Students are focusing on including capital letters, full stops and spaces between their words when writing sentences.

• Addition and subtraction – within 10 using word stories
