Principal's Message

From the Desk of Kathy Nott - Term 2, Week 9

Good afternoon, Parents/Carers,

We are currently in Week 9.  This term has gone extremely quickly, and we still have many activities before the end of Term 2.

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Parent/Teacher Interviews will take place this week and next week.  We would appreciate if you could be on time for your appointment as this assists us in making the process run smoothly and not have parents/carers waiting.  If for any reason you are running late or cannot make it, please advise the school office and our office staff will let the teacher know.

School Assembly

It was great to see all of our parents and carers last Friday at our school assembly.  K/1B delighted us with a very entertaining performance telling us "what they can see" and a special rendition of "Do Rei Me" from The Sound of Music, as well as a special surprise performance from our students who assisted in Capers filming. Congratulations to those students who have received class awards, spelling bee awards, W & C awards and our highest attendees this term.  I am so pleased with the number of students who have reached over 95% in attendance as well as our top six students who have achieved 100% for Term 2.  Our number of students with 100% attendance has tripled from Term 1.  Amazing well done everyone.

Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition

Joseph, Lillian, Piper & Tyler will be competeing in the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition at Tamworth Public School today.  We wish them well and look forward to hearing about the experience on their return tomorrow.  Good Luck.

The Rezource Force STEM Show

We are delighted to welcome the National Theatre for Children to our school tomorrow to engage our students in a STEM Show and program on Energy Matters.  Students will learn what electricity is and why we need it, how electricity is created and why the Renewable Energy Zone (Solar and Wind Farms) matters. This program will be performed for all students from K-6.

School Athletics Carnival

Our annual School Athletics Carnival will be held this Friday, 27th June at David Taylor Oval. If you have not done so already, please ensure your child's note is returned so they can participate in this event. Please note this is a whole school event and there will be no staff on site for the day.  Please ensure your child is at the oval by 9:00am, to be marked off by their class teacher, as this is a normal school day. We encourage all parents/caregivers to attend on the day to cheer on our students.   The P&C will be holding a canteen. If you wish to take your child home early, please ensure you see the classroom teacher so they can be marked off for the day.  Students who catch the bus will be dropped off and collected from the oval.  We encourage our students to wear their house colours or sports uniform.  Oxley - Red, Macquarie - Green and Wentworth - Yellow.   In the unfortunate event of wet weather please look to Facebook for updates. Back up date for the carnival for wet weather will be Tuesday, 1st July.

NENW Touch Football

Ashton, Dominic, Lachy and Lebron have been selected to join the New England Northwest Team in Touch Football and will play in Inverell this Wednesday, 25th June 2025.  We wish you all the best and look forward to hearing about the experience.

Capers

Piper, Emily, Arabella and Telmie have filmed choreography videos for CAPERS. Their dancing will contribute to helping other schools, teachers and children to learn mass dance performances. Our whole school is committed to the CAPERS performance which will place in Tamworth at the TRECC on the 7th and 8th of November.

NAIDOC Week

Next week we mark NAIDOC week at Werris Creek Public School.  This year's theme is "The Next Generation - Strength, Vision and Legacy". Our Yr 4/5/6W students will head to Wallhollow Public School on Monday, 30th June to participate in their celebrations and the annual NAIDOC Cup.  Parents/Carers are required to transport their children to and from Wallhollow Public School.  Yr 4/5/6W will also attend the Werris Creek MPS to visit residents and participate in their NAIDOC celebrations and sausage sizzle on Tuesday, 1st July.   We thank both Wallhallow Public School and Werris Creek MPS for the invitation and look forward to the celebrations.  On Wednesday,  all students will participate in a rotation of activities relating to NAIDOC and this year's theme.

Fitness-a-thon

We will be going out with a bang on Friday, 4th July 2025 (Last day of Term 2) with our Fitness-a-athon at 1:30pm.  Our students have been training hard to make this event a great one. Come join us for an afternoon of fun and cheer on our students. Our highest fundraisers will be awarded with a free Life Skills Meal Deal in Term 3.

Behaviour Focus

Our behaviour focus for Week 9 is  Ready -

We are learning to:

  • Ask the right questions at the right time

We know we are successful when:

  • Stay focused when instructions are being given

  • Wait until the teacher has finished speaking - don't interrupt

  • Ask the person next to you

  • Don't distract others by asking unnecessary questions

K/1B -        Jaxon
