Maths Game: Family Budget Challenge
This game introduces budgeting, addition, and decision-making in a real-life context.
How to Play:
- Give your child a pretend budget (e.g., $50 or $100).
- Provide a list of items with prices (snacks, toys, activities, souvenirs).
- Ask them to plan how they would spend their money without going over budget.
- For older children, introduce sales, discounts, or taxes to make the challenge more complex.
- Invite them to explain their choices and compare with different budgets.
This activity develops financial literacy, estimation, and problem-solving skills.
Maths at Home Tip: Measure Your Adventures
Turn outings into maths adventures! Measure how far you walked, how long you stayed, how many steps you climbed, or how many people were at a location. Use a map to calculate distances, or track time spent travelling. Encourage your child to estimate, record, and compare these measurements at different places. It's a great way to link maths with real experiences.
Keeping maths playful helps children stay confident and connected with learning.
Happy counting!
