Maths Game: Family Budget Challenge

This game introduces budgeting, addition, and decision-making in a real-life context.

How to Play:

  1. Give your child a pretend budget (e.g., $50 or $100).
  2. Provide a list of items with prices (snacks, toys, activities, souvenirs).
  3. Ask them to plan how they would spend their money without going over budget.
  4. For older children, introduce sales, discounts, or taxes to make the challenge more complex.
  5. Invite them to explain their choices and compare with different budgets.

This activity develops financial literacy, estimation, and problem-solving skills.

Maths at Home Tip: Measure Your Adventures

Turn outings into maths adventures! Measure how far you walked, how long you stayed, how many steps you climbed, or how many people were at a location. Use a map to calculate distances, or track time spent travelling. Encourage your child to estimate, record, and compare these measurements at different places. It's a great way to link maths with real experiences.

Keeping maths playful helps children stay confident and connected with learning.

Happy counting!
