St Roch's Reading Challenge - Term 3
Building a love of reading, one book at a time
At St Roch’s, we’re passionate about fostering a love of reading. To support this, our annual Reading Challenge will take place throughout Term 3, encouraging all students to develop their reading stamina and enjoy books across a wide range of genres.
The challenge will run for 9 weeks, starting on Monday 21st July and finishing on Friday 19th September, the last day of term.
How it works:
- Prep to Year 2 students are encouraged to read or listen to 40 books.
- Years 3 to 6 students are encouraged to read or listen to 15 books.
- Every book read earns students 1 point for themselves and 1 point for their class.
- Teachers are participating too! Their books also count toward the class total.
Students record their completed books using the Google Form, accessible through their Google Classroom or via the link below. The form will be open to accept book registrations from the first day of Term 3 and will close at the end of the term.
Prizes and Recognition
At the end of the term, we’ll celebrate our top readers:
- One student and one class from Prep–Year 2
- One student and one class from Years 3–6
These winners will be recognised for reading the most books and contributing to a strong reading culture across the school.
How Parents Can Support:
- Encourage daily reading at home.
- Read together with your child, especially for younger students.
- Talk about the books they’re reading to deepen comprehension.
- Help them keep track of their books and ensure they’re recorded regularly.
We’re always amazed by how many books our students read when they work together toward a shared goal. Last year, we read a total of 2,572 books throughout the term which was an incredible effort. Thank you to our classroom teachers for promoting this initiative and to our families for supporting it at home.
Let’s make this our best reading challenge yet!
