Community Engagement

St Roch's Grandparents & Special Friends Morning

We are super excited to be welcoming Grandparents and Special Friends into our school next week on Wednesday 30th of July from 9.00am - 10.45am. It is always such an honour to embrace these significant people into our school community for the morning. They will certainly be made to feel welcome. Our classroom teachers are designing an activity that can be shared and may include links to our Geography unit this term. Mapping where Grandparents and Special friends grew up may be part of the morning's fun!  Some of our favourite shared activities include the interviews and recording of the differences between what school was like in the past and comparing this to what it is like now.

Our Parent & Friends with parent support will provide an incredible morning tea in the Hall and our Preps as is tradition will be invited into the Hall to share something speacial with all of our guests.

This year we are excited to be holding a Book Fair as part of the morning. Tremendous thanks to Jeffreys Bookshop in Glenferrie Road Malvern for providing the books. Monique Stewart, with her children Molly and Patrick and myself had lots of fun selecting books to be included in the Book Fair which we can't wait to have on display in the Art Room throughout the morning. Grandparents and special friends are warmly invited to purchase a book for their grandchild to be donated to our beautiful school Library.

We have collated a mixture of fiction and nonfiction books suitable for students from Prep - Year 6 with a range of prices from $10.00 - $35.00. We hope the students, grandparents and special friends have lots of fun selecting books.

Term 2 Chess Club Champions

Chess Club Champions

We would like to announce the St Roch’s Chess Club Champions for Term 2. These students received their trophies and badges at Morning Greeting this morning and we are very proud of their achievements. They have been attending weekly chess club sessions with Sam, our coach, throughout the term to build their skills. Each week they play a friendly game of chess with a partner and points are collected. Students receive bonus points for showing respect, responsibility and resilience at Chess Club.

We would like to congratulate Henry McCann who received first place and has been awarded the best and fairest trophy. Congratulations Henry.

Congratulations to Hannah Setiawan who has been awarded the silver Grasshopper Badge for second place.

And congratulations to Zachary Crocker who has been awarded the Bronze grasshopper Badge for third place.

Term 3 Chess Club

Chess Club for Term 3 begins next Wednesday 30 July and is held every Wednesday from 11.00am - 11.50am for all interested students. Please consider registering your child for this great lunchtime club. Please see details below to register and in the Extra Curricula page of the newsletter.

Gardening Club

Gardening Club will run throughout Term 3 every Wednesday at 1.50pm and is open to all students from Prep - Year 6. This is such a beautiful time for our students to increase feelings of wellbeing while learning about science and gardening as they dig in the soil and tend to the garden.

Even in Winter there is lots to do in our vegie patches! The purple beans have been a huge success and have provided tasty eating.  There is also lots of parsley, nasturtium, marigolds and strawberry plants that need regular watering, weeding and feeding with our very own worm castings.

We look forward to watching the students and Mrs Meseha's Winter vegetables growing in our veggie patches.

Dance Club

Dance Club with Maddie from Dance Fitness Victoria is held every Thursday at lunchtime. Dance Club is open for all students from Prep to Year 2. Registrations for Term 3 are now open.

Art Club

Art Club is being run by our very own Arts Leaders Michael and Evie and our Art Specialist teacher Ms Boers. This week there will be an activity especially designed for students in Year 3 - 6 with art activities on offer for students in Prep to Year 2. There is always a lot of fun being had in the Art Room.
