Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,

Well done to the SRC for their leadership in coordinating and promoting the recent Hoodie Up for Autism event. There were many wonderful designs entered into the design your own hoodie competition and we congratulate and thank everyone who got involved! The SRCs job to judge the winners was made very difficult by the many colourful, creative and thoughtful entries. Congratulations to the winner, Zoey as well as the runner up, Margherita.

As Term 2 draws to a close, we take this opportunity to reflect on what has been a vibrant, engaging, and productive term at Heidelberg Primary School. The past eleven weeks have been filled with meaningful learning, community connection, and celebration of student achievement.

We began the term with our Student-Led ANZAC Day Service, a heartfelt and respectful commemoration led entirely by our students. Their leadership and maturity during the service were inspiring, as they paid tribute to the sacrifices of those who have served. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of student voice and the deep values we instil here at HPS.

During Education Week, we proudly opened our classrooms to showcase the rich learning experiences happening across all year levels. From interactive lessons to creative displays, families and visitors were able to see firsthand the dedication of our students and staff. It was a great celebration of learning and community.

We also welcomed many prospective families during our 2026 Foundation School Tours, where our school captains did a fabulous job of sharing highlights about our school and what makes HPS such an amazing place to learn. It was a pleasure to share the spirit of Heidelberg Primary with prospective parents and carers, and to see the enthusiasm of future students as they explored their future learning environment.

The term showcased a special performance by our Recorder Ensemble, where students took to the stage to perform a variety of pieces, showcasing their talents and the hard work they’ve put into developing their musical skills. It was a joyous evening filled with melody, confidence, and community pride.

Finally, many year level have this week held learning expos that highlighted student learning in creative and engaging ways. These events allowed students to share their knowledge and skills with peers, families, and staff, building confidence and communication skills while deepening their understanding of key concepts.

Term 2 has truly been a celebration of learning, leadership, and community spirit. We thank all of our students, staff, and families for their continued support and dedication. We look forward to a well-earned break and an exciting Term 3 ahead!

Building Works

  • Asbestos removal

Asbestos removal works will take place as part of this project over the school holidays. The health and safety of the school and local community is paramount: any identified asbestos will be removed in strict accordance with occupational health and safety regulations and WorkSafe Victoria will be notified.

A licensed asbestos removalist will remove the materials under the supervision of an independent occupational hygienist, who will also conduct air monitoring. The hygienist will also issue a clearance certificate to ensure the building is safe for general access on completion of the works. No asbestos removal works will be scheduled while students or staff are on site.

  • Tree removal

To support upcoming works and make way for the new facilities there is a need to remove several trees on the site. We have worked with the arborist to keep as many trees as is safely possible. We will plant at least 2 trees of a comparable species for every tree removed, in line with our tree removal and replacement policy.
