Year 1

Minibeast Day

We concluded our Minibeasts integrated unit of work this term with a Minibeast Day on Tuesday 24 June. What a wonderful and memorable way to cap off and celebrate all our learning about Minibeasts!

We started the day with a Minibeast disco in the Hall, followed by a scavenger hunt around the school. There were so many minibeasts on the loose and we had to find them! After recess, we participated in some art and craft and made some 'minibeast' themed biscuits, as well as a butterfly and bee paper creation.

To top off the day, we had our very first official Minibeast assembly in the Hall and the Year 1 teachers were so proud of each and every one of the Year 1 students. It was incredible to see so many of the Year 1 children speak into the microphone, from opening the assembly, sharing their learnings from the term and then closing the assembly. It was so much fun to parade into the Hall to the ‘Ants go Marching’ and then perform the 'Millipede March' for everyone.

Thank you to all those who attended the assembly to cheer the Year 1 students on. The children were so excited knowing that there was so many familiar faces there to support them.

It was amazing to see every Year 1 student dressed up on the day and the many amazing costumes on display, many being DIY. Thank you to all the Year 1 families for all effort and time that went into the costumes and outfits for the day. It really was a terrific day and we hope all the children went home buzzing with lots of stories. But we also think there may be many little minibeasts who may have had an early night ... there sure were some teachers we know of, that might have had an early bed time too!
