Consent Education at Badano: Supporting Student Wellbeing
In recent Badano lessons, our Years 9 and 10 students took part in valuable conversations about consent, led by their Year Level Leaders, Badano Leaders, and our College Wellbeing Coordinator. Our Year 10 students also had presentations from an external provider- Elephant Ed, who delivered a session focused on navigating respectful relationships and understanding consent in real-life contexts. These sessions aimed to offer clear, age-appropriate information and remind students of the importance of respectful behaviour—in friendships, relationships, and everyday interactions, whether in person or online.
Understanding consent is an essential part of looking after our students’ wellbeing. It helps young people feel confident in setting boundaries, respecting others’ choices, and recognising what healthy, safe relationships look like. The discussions also helped students understand how clear communication and mutual respect can reduce misunderstandings and help prevent harm. Talking openly about consent gives students the language, awareness, and confidence they need to make good choices and treat others with care.
These sessions are part of our wider commitment to building a school culture where every student feels safe, valued, and supported. By having these important conversations, we are also reinforcing the values at the heart of our College: compassion, dignity, integrity, and respect.
Having the leaders from across the College involved in these sessions helped to strengthen the message and show students that this is something we are all committed to. When young people hear the same message from different trusted adults, it becomes more meaningful for them.
We are proud of the way our students engaged with the topic and the thoughtful conversations that followed. These sessions are one part of an ongoing journey, and we encourage families to continue the conversation at home.
