 Foundation - Year 2

I’m thrilled about the arrival of some fantastic new resources at our school! Our latest addition includes decodable readers from Little Learners Love Literacy, which will support the reading program in Room 2. We are passionate about reading and are dedicated to developing and practicing the skills needed to decode words and confidently read books.

 

Reading and Writing:

Continue with our sentence writing and building our knowledge of nouns (person, place, animal, or thing).

 

Our writing is inspired by the stories we read and the things we see. Last week, we created our own classroom story about a trip to the zoo, using the structure of the book A Trip to the Farm as a guide. To bring our story to life, we watched a short video tour of Australia Zoo, which helped us visualise and explore the experience.

 

We used the sentences starter " I can see..." to illustrate and write our own page in the classroom book 'Our trip to Australia Zoo'.

This week students went on a noun hunt using the story Spolsh for the Billabong. A noun is a personal, animal, place, or thing. Students created their own waterhole picture using indigenous symbols and experimented with labeling the nouns in their own picture. 

 

Mathematics

Over the past couple of weeks, our learning has focused on rolling dice, building, saying, writing, and counting numbers. A key part of this has been learning to write numbers correctly by first understanding digits—0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9, which are used to form all numbers.

 

We are also exploring how the value of a number changes depending on the placement of its digits within the place value system. For example, in 13 and 31, the same digits are used, but their position changes the number’s value.
