This March, our Performing Arts program has mainly explored Music.
We have continued to watch a quick and engaging clip at the start of every lesson - European Folk Dances:
In Foundation, students have been focussing on loud and soft sounds, fast and slow sounds, and sound stories. For example, they have been exploring a sound story about fast and slow sounds called The Hare and The Tortoise.
In Year One, the students have explored pitch and melody. The students have examined high and low sounds and pitch patterns. As an example, students have used xylophones to play the song Stepping Up, Stepping Down.
In March, students in Year Two have focussed on rhythm patterns and ostinatos. For example, students have performed a movement or chant to the song Oonka Chukka Chant. They have also kept the beat to the chant Play Some Rhythms.
Year Three students have explored raps and rhymes. They have explored three beat patterns by moving, using instruments and body parts to accordion music. For example, they have moved to three beats in the song Rhymers’ Waltz.
In year Four, students have mainly focussed on the rhythms, rhymes and riffs of Boogie Woogie and Calypso music. As examples, they studied and performed vocal harmonies and danced to the Boogie Woogie song Beat Box Boogie and sang the song The Poor Old Dog.
Year Five and Six students have focussed on Rhyme and Rhythm this term. They explored hip hop and rap. For example, they wrote lyrics in pairs and performed as a group to the song Puttin’ It Out There. Students have also performed rap music and dance performances that have featured improvisations and word loops (which are short lyric phrases).
Concert Information
In March, planning continued for the concert with the Theme Dancing through the Decades. We are finalising the songs to be selected for each year level and class. Students will begin rehearsing for the concert in Term 2, with the concert to occur Friday 29th August. Once planning and information is finalised, more details will be published.
