Soaking Up the Little Things

“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” - Psalm 127:3

Life as a parent can feel like a blur of busy schedules, school drop-offs, meal prep, and bedtime routines. But in between the to-do lists and the tired eyes, God gives us tiny moments - sacred, fleeting, and precious. A baby’s sleepy sigh on your chest, a three-year-old giggling as she kisses her baby sister’s toes, a child reaching for your hand on the way to school. These moments may seem small, but they are glimpses of God’s goodness and reminders of the precious gifts He has placed in our lives.

God calls us to be present in these small, beautiful moments. Our days may feel ordinary, but in them, He is at work. In Luke 2:19, we read that Mary, the mother of Jesus, “treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.” She didn’t rush past them or take them for granted. She noticed. She paused. She soaked them in. What a simple yet profound image - soaking up the moments, storing them away as reminders of God’s goodness.

As parents, we are invited to do the same. To slow down, to breathe, to notice the everyday joys God places before us. In the laughter, the cuddles, even the mess - He is there. And as we soak up these little moments, we are reminded that they are not little at all - they are part of God’s great gift of love, woven into the story of our family and our faith.

Each day holds moments worth treasuring. Take a deep breath, look around, and ask yourself: What is one small, beautiful moment I can notice and thank God for today?
