Garden Club
Mr Jorgen Choong
We have an excess of Japanese Sweet Potato vines. If you would like to grow your own or use it as a ground cover, please ask myself Mr Choong.
It requires watering every second day and can be placed under shade or direct sunlight. The Japanese Sweet Potato requires minimal care and it is an ideal plant for beginners.
We have additional volunteers from Pope Francis so the Ms Gastin garden will be transformed over the next few months. We will be introducing flowering plants such as Crimson Geraniums, Pig Face and Nasturtium for now. We are hoping these flowering plants can withstand playground punishment.
At Garden Club we make our own soil and repurpose things for other uses. The only items we have purchased are the eight worm farms and the ninth one we adopted. Our soil making happens mainly in autumn where we have the chance to collect leaves and sticks. We combine this with the worm tea and worm castings to enrich the process of making more soil.
Garden Club happens during Tuesday and Thursday morning as soon as the gates open for school. Currently we are preparing the second garden bed to grow another crop of Japanese Sweet Potato. The original bed will be retired, and another crop will grow in its place. This is to prevent diseases from developing from growing the same crop constantly.
If you are not able to join us at Garden Club there are jobs that can be done, for instance volunteering to collect and deposit compost after fruit break, making origami plantar boxes and processing seeds for cataloguing. Please feel free to see myself Mr Choong.
