From your Captains...

As school captain’s we strive to create a safe, respectful and kind environment for all students. Ensuring that each individual feels as though they can come forward and express any ideas or concerns they may have. A key role of our position is to lead fortnightly assemblies, where we announce events, provide reminders and encourage student involvement. This year, the SRC committee provided a new suggestion to improve the assembly process and create a positive environment. Charlotte and I have implemented this suggestion by organising different activities for each assembly, hoping to make it a more enjoyable and inclusive experience. For instance, our most recent assembly included a game of trivia, where all students were encouraged to participate and support each other. We both believe that starting the week off with an inclusive activity is a great way to motivate and uplift students, adding to their overall schooling experience. The monthly school council meetings provide a great opportunity for us to learn important school procedures and discuss SRC events and improvements while gaining active experience.
Every week SRC meetings are held, where representative students discuss ways to improve the school, put forward opinions about present issues and organise upcoming events. This is a great way for the both of us to stay informed about the younger grades and the happenings around the school. Currently these lunchtime meetings have been running very smoothly as all ages feel confident to express any concerns and volunteer for extracurricular duties. With students volunteering to create posters for the forthcoming walk to school day, help out the staff in the kitchen during the Mother’s day breakfast and run the canteen for the lunchtime reheating station. During a recent meeting, Mattea and I discussed the events that we would lead or attend in honor of ANZAC day. The day before ANZAC day we hosted an assembly, to speak infront of our school and inform our peers on the history of the ANZACS and the bravery and hardship these soldiers put forth. As part of our role we also got the privilege to represent Edenhope College at the local service, where we laid the wreath and along with many other students paid our respects to those who lost their lives fighting for our country. Overall it has been an amazing experience and we are looking forward to completing a fun, successful and inclusive year.
